Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
word-final ’y’
i don't really see what you mean
why would the y be silent in "Glomy"?
i may be wrong but i think y is never silent in french
i don't know, that's why i'm asking :D i just know that a lot of word-final letters are silent, but i haven't seen any information regarding y
Two things:
(1) In terms of consonants, all – save a handful – are mute.
(2) In terms of vowels, only « e » is silent.
« y » is neither a consonant (in this case) nor is it the vowel « e », therefore it is not silent.
got it, thanks :)
This is an oversimplification; I suggest you read these articles for more info
