I think they were asking if this particular use and meaning of pour exists in French naturally, as opposed to it being an anglicism.
It seems to establish a type of contrast of the level of French between the average American and this particular individual.
Yeah I’m just asking because of “pour” in this sense
“malgré le fait que tu es américain”
