The difference between the present subjunctive (jusqu'à ce que je finisse) and the past subjunctive (jusqu'à ce que j'aie fini) depends on the completeness nature of the subjunctive clause.

« Je m'y suis tenue jusqu'à ce que je finisse »
–> You stood there, doing your work, and when you finished it, you were no longer standing there; the subordinate clause is happening at the same time as the main clause.

« Je m'y suis tenue jusqu'à ce que j'aie fini »
–> You stood there, did your work, and when you finished it, you were still standing there; the subordinate clause happened and ended during the time of the main clause.

Because of that, your translation of 'I stayed there until I was finished' would fit better with the present subjunctive version.
