Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

« Je ne suis pas... » is the correct grammatical way to say "I'm not...".
However, the negative adverb « ne » is usually dropped in everyday speech, so most people say « Je suis pas... ».

Ah I see

#

Is it like a formal way?

Ok

#

Let’s say I say « je suis pas » do you think people will correct me?

#

In day to day speech on the street

olive ravine
#

Also, you might see it as « J'suis pas... » or even « Chuis pas... »
That's because people also commonly elide the pronoun « je » in everyday speech

Ok

#

while your here may i ask you another question?

Unless the person you're speaking to is very sensitive to grammatical mistakes. 💀

# olive ravine Sure

I sometimes see in chat a letter then a word ex: « l’amour » is it shortening it so la goes in front

#

Same with « J’suis »

#

Is it saying a completely new word or just “The love” and “I am” shortened

olive ravine
#

for « l'amour », this is a grammatical rule which says that the definite articles « le » and « la » merge with the word in front of them if that word starts with a vowel

tiny vine
#

So an article in front of a vowel will merge it?

olive ravine
#

for example, the word « ordinateur », which means "computer", begins with the letter "O"

#

which is a vowel

#

if we want to say "the computer", we have to say « **l'**ordinateur »

tiny vine
#

Aha!

#

Ok that was such an npc response 💀

olive ravine
#

lmao

tiny vine
#

Thanks so much mate

olive ravine
#

no problem

#

also, for « J'suis », that's more like a slang kind of situation

#

it's not a grammatical rule

tiny vine
#

Ah ok
