Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Votre is the singular form of "your" for formal or plural address. It’s used with a singular noun.
Vos is the plural form of "your" for formal or plural address

Ton/Ta/Tes are all singular forms of "your" for informal address.
Ton is used with a masculine singular nouns or singular nouns that begin with a vowel sound.
Ta is used with a feminine singular noun.
Tes is used with plural nouns
In summary, "votre/vos" for formal or plural "you" and "ton/ta/tes" for informal singular "you »

In english, this all equates to 'your' but in French it is more complicated.

Firstly there is informal you (tu -> ton/ta/tes) and formal you (vous -> votre/vos)

Secondly the object gender and quantity, as there are gendered objects in french. This ONLY APPLIES to ton/ta. Which ton is for masculine words (ton livre) and ta for feminine words (ta voiture). Object gender does not apply for votre (votre livre, votre voiture)

Lastly, quantity. If there is one object, we stick to ton/ta for informal (depending on gender), and votre for formal But if there is more than one object we use tes for informal (tes voitures, tes livres) and vos for formal (vos voitures, vos livres) REGARDLESS of the objects gender

I’ll just stress again that Ton can be used with feminine singular nouns if they start with a vowel sound* you would say ton amie* and not ta amie

If you’re talking about an ex it’s always ton ex no matter if it’s a girlfriend or boyfriend
