Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
je sais pas comment le faire
je peux pas le retrouver
depending on the gender of the object in question for the second sentence it could be la
or les, in the plural.
J’ai oublié où j’ai stationné ma voiture. Je peux pas la retrouver.
if context has been given and you're replacing an established noun with the "it", then it depends on the "it" in question, whether it's masculine/feminine/plural etc -
i can't find the dog -
Q - tu peux trouver le chien ?
A - je ne peux pas trouver le chien → je ne peux pas le trouver
i can't find the car
Q - tu peux trouver la voiture ?
A - je ne peux pas trouver la voiture → je ne peux pas la trouver
im gonna stop here i just glanced up and saw my exact example lmfao
Keep in mind that the "it" (le/la or les as François explained) in general goes directly before the conjugated verb except if there is a verb in the infinitive, so for example
Je mange les pommes dans mon lit (i eat apples in bed/
Je les mange dans mon lit
Notice how "les" is before the conjugated verb "mange"
But
Je vais acheter les bananes
Je vais les acheter
"Les" is before the infinitive "acheter" (and not before the conjugated verb "vais")
in this case would it not be « retrouver? » since the object is implied lost
i would say retrouver flows better but i wanted to only have the articles change hehe
im a fool
C'est pas grave
But what if there is no noun, no gender to look at
or does that not happen often enough to even bother with it
Then it defaults to masculin
mon osti d’frère a lancé mes clés dans le jardin. Je cherchais toute la journée mais je ne suis pas finalement arrivé à les retrouver

i can't do it - je (ne) peux pas le faire
appreciate very much everybody's help
