Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
To add on to this question, why is it réponse longue but cheveux longs? Do they have a different meaning?
I’m a beginner but I think it’s because cheveux is plural!! Not 100% sure tho
feminin singular vs masculine plural
are you sure you're at an advanced level?
The question isn't why « long » has different forms, but why does it precede the noun for one (une longue réponse) but procede it in for the next (des cheveux longs). Why « des cheveux longs » instead of « de longs cheveux » ?
i didn't mean to be rude, sorry if it seemed like i was
but it's like the basics of french
yeah dude sorry for lashing out but I forget things sometimes you know😭
My apologies
was it?
well idk 😭
Yeah that was the question
oh this
Yeah, OP was asking why it came up as « ta longue réponse » instead of « ta réponse longue » and you replied with the BAGS thing but « long » does come up after the noun like what agrumes said with « (des) cheveux longs »
cheveux longs = literally, physically
longue réponse = more subjective, and also figurative
Thank youuu this makes sense :)
So it’s just a kinda exception you need to know?
no this distinction happens for other adjectives as well
un homme grand : a tall man
un grand homme : a great, important, major man
objective vs subjective
ahhhhh i see
That makes a lot of sense
So would it be like
« Ta longue réponse » because its more subjective, but « Ta lettre longue » because it refers more to the physical length of the letter?
Or is it also « Ta longue lettre » because of 'long'
Wdym? Sorry haha
ahhhh i see
