Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
If it’s relevant, you can absolutely use the feminine versions, but some people avoid them (particularly chatte) because of the connotation. You might also hear middle schoolers giggle at their usage. They’re certainly less taboo that bitch and pussy in English.
Though "bitch" isn't necessarily taboo in all contexts
Afaik chienne is worse than chatte in Canada
But yeah, depends on the animal, kind of like in English.
My aunt and uncle used to breed dogs and I distinctly remember my uncle talking about his "bitch" one day – I think I gave myself whiplash I turned around so hard.
Lol
Yeah within that community it's completely benign but pretty much anyone else will at least snicker at it
would you only use it if you were emphasizing that the animal was female, or is it also just a regular everyday word
if you have a dog, and it's a female, you could totally say "ma chienne"
buuuuuut for a lot of people, it's not really relevant info
true lol
so you'll her "mon chien" as well, even if the dog is female
