Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
it's only used when it's a multiple of 5
X heures moins cinq, dix, ... , until vingt-cinq
but never the last two you said
Thanks for telling me. Is using x moins y at any point less/more natural than using x heures y ?
I'd tend to say that for 35/-25 and 40/-20 it's about evenly natural, and then -le quart, -10 and -5 feel more natural than 45, 50 and 55. But you can still say either. If you have to provide exact time, better say 47 or 53 or whatever it is.
Thank you so much!
Tbh these days you’re pretty unlikely to hears moins whatever. With phones/digital watches people tend just to read the hour out with the minutes
agreed
There ought to be a good amount of people who don't though
Like in the south, where theyre not as techy.
./s just in case.
It exists, yes. And you would be understood. But practically no one words it that way anymore
When giving the time sure, but there are other reasons to mention time. To arrange a meeting for example : "on se retrouve à 8h moins le quart devant le restau"
Je t’écoute pas. T’écris restau et pas resto, donc t’es pas fiable /s

Fair enough
Thanks les gars pour l'aide
