French tends to use the structure « reflexive pronoun + verb + object with definite article » when describing the subject's own limbs

« Je me lave les mains » because I'm washing my own hands

« Je lave ses mains » because I'm washing someone else's

there are other cases in which you would use reflexive pronouns and such, but the use of this specific construction whereas English would use possessive pronouns is specific to body parts indeed
