Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
I believe you're asking about the French gerund construction
en faisant qqch
Not always do you need the preposition « en » when employing the gerund. Reference this article:

mdr i was just brushing up en and y, dont know why i figured en was referring to personne 😵 yea the gerund makes sense I see it now
you can tell its the gerund because the verb is "conjugated" with -ant
je suis allé au Japon, et ce, sans y conna__ître__ personne.
je suis allé au Japon, et ce, en n'y conna__issant__ personne.
Nice examples - is there any difference in meaning between the two sentences?
no, they are just two ways to say the same thing
I went to Japan, and that, without knowing anyone there.
I went to Japan, and that, not knowing anyone there.

Haha that was my discord name before they made me change it
