Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
All the forms are quite common tbh
The third is only used in certain contexts
But the first two are as common as « I need to » or « I must » in English
Understood, Thank you very much!
Also for the il faut que you can also omit the que and add the infinitive verb
Could you give me an example please?
Like Il faut promener le chien or Il faut faire des courses
Yeah there’s no explicit subject but people say it like that too
I get it, thank you
Dont forget that "Il faut que " is followed by verb conjugated as subjunctive, but since you are a beginner you dont have think about it now. Just in case you see the verb conjugated with a form that you dont know, then know its subjunctive in this case
And there are general obligation expressions that u can note like
Il est indispensable de + v inf
Utilisation of the imperative mood
Il est nécessaire de + inf
And many more
Thanks you for the information!
there's is also avoir à which is used very commonly in the expressionn'avoir qu'à meaning "to only have to do".
Il n'a qu'à venir me parler s'il veut le travail.
He only has to come and see me if he wants the job.
