Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
same with the written line "je ne savais pas" which is pronounced by the speaker like "jeune savais pas" (where "je" and "ne" are conjoined)
it's almost 100% of informal speech
we skip the [ə] sounds that you find in those words
tout l'temps
je n'savais pas
Final unstressed schwa has a tendency to be dropped in spoken French, that's why you pronounce « samedi » as « sam'di »
not necessarily final
thx!
also "ne" tends to get dropped in conversational french.
so "je savais pas", and because the schwa in "je" also gets dropped... "j'savais pas". But "js" is hard to pronounce so you usually hear "sh" instead -> shavais pas
is that like "shais pas"? j'sais pas?
yes, same thing
ty! 🙂
@mellow light Hi, please respond in the threads created below each question, not in the actual channel itself so it won’t get bogged down by answers
Also, it’s more about how the final vowel in « le » is reduced or even removed with the consonant moved to the front so instead of « tout le », you get what sounds like « toull » which can be difficult for beginners to pick up on
Bertie, I'm not sure that I'm entirely clear as to how that work but I'll try my best, thanks for the heads up
No worries. Every time a message is posted on any of the salles-de-classe, a bot will create a thread which is like a mini-channel. This is done automatically by the bot, you don’t have to do anything. We answer the questions within the thread so that we don’t fill the main salle-de-classe with answers and thus block out any other question.
