Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
For the first exercise, on top of the missing "que" before the subjects, 4, 6 and 8 are wrong.
Ty
Before I correct you, I just want to remind you of how to form the subjunctive for regular verbs:
- Conjugate the verb in the ils/elles form in the present.
- e.g. Ils finissent
- Remove the « ils/elles » and the –ent ending from the verb.
- e.g. ... finiss–
- Add your pronoun and the correct ending.
- e.g. Je finisse, tu finisses, etc...
Exercise n°1
[6] You conjugated the verb dire in the « vous » form in the first step, not the « ils/elles » form.
[8] Some verbs, like venir, devoir, voir, and others, have two different stems in the present subjunctive tense. In the case of venir, the stem vienn– is used for « je », « tu », « il/elle », and « ils/elles », while the stem ven– is used for « nous » and « vous ».
–
Exercise n°2:
[3] You conjugated the verb devoir instead of the verb attendre.
[4] You conjugated the verb devoir instead of the verb venir.
–
Exercise n°3:
[1] The correct stem for the verb venir for « vous » is ven–. not venn–.
[3] Similarly to venir, the verb aller has two subjunctive stems: aill– for « je », « tu », « il/elle », « ils/elles », and all– for « nous » and « vous ».
[6] The conjugation « soit » is for « il/elle », not « tu ».
–
Exercise n°4:
[1] You forgot to add the negative adverb « pas » in the sentence.
[2] The original sentence is affirmative, not negative.
[3] The pronoun « tu » elides with a word starting with a vowel only in informal speech, not in grammar exercises.
[4] See n°2.
[7] You conjugated the verb vouloir in the subjunctive instead of the verb aller.
You know what? The irregular pattern of venir in subjunctive present is the same as in indicative present. Verbs that have a changing stem also do this in subjunctive present.
@ancient vessel
For Exercise 4 (since Fry didn’t do it), number 3 should have the subject pronoun written out (tu écrives instead of t’écrives) because that’s informal, and number 7 has you answering with « veuillent » which is for vouloir, not aller
dang
Oh a very little error: « il ait » for Exercise 1 Number 4
True, but some verbs like aller, vouloir, and valoir have different stems for « je », « tu », « il/elle », and « ils/elles » in the subjunctive than in the indicative.
oh yeah
nice job 👏
