Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
the correct way to write these words are « __l'__étudiant/__l'__étudiante » and « __l'__élève »
« l'étudiant » is masculine, while « l'étudiant__e__ » is feminine
on the other hand, « l'élève » can be either masculine or feminine depending on context
Thanks for pointing them out. I appreciate it. 👋
What about their differences though? 🧐
One describes a male university student (étudiant), the other a female university student (étudiante)
basically, « étudiant.e » for uni, « élève » for high school and down
i'd say "étudiant(e)" is specific to university
in any other context, let's say I'm a 50yo guy taking karate lessons, I'll be called "élève"
This confused me a little TBH. Wouldn't you call "l'étudiant/l'étudiante" for college (university) students, and below "l'élève"? 🧐 Merci .
« élève » is the default translation for ‘student’ with « étudiant.e » being limited to university students. I thought you were asking in a formal education setting and didn’t mention that it applied to classes in general.
Thanks once again for clarifying, Bertie. Helped me a lot! 👋
