Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
« soi » is the reflexive so 'in himself'
I understood it as, '(he doesn't believe) in himself… but the guilty was aware of his life'
as in he might've lived a life of bad stuff but doesn't believe that he was bad
but of course more context is welcome
it was a question about a giant insect monster
