Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
@brazen elm
So right, firstly
The article agrees with the nearest noun it attaches to, not the whole phrase
So
Je mange du dinde et du porc
ohh
And probably also avec du pain because it's 'some' bread (this is called article partitif
So des for plural of both genders
Du for masculine singular
De la for feminine singular
ohh alright
Je ne mange pas de la pomme de terre - I don't eat potatoes (generally)
Je mange du pain - I'm eating bread
Je mange des baguettes
This one is self explanatory I feel
I would also probably say 'La nourriture me plaisait'
Rather than J'ai aimé la nourriture
do they mean the same thing or
There's a slight differemge in terms of the tense
cause ima be honest i didnt know the past tense of “J’adore” so i googled it and used that
Plaisait is imparfait so generally happened over a longer time than J'ai aimé
ohh alright
And really aimer is more for general situations I find
Also collège is what would be middle school to an American
And people tend to use the article with that
Le collège
Présent : je lis le livre
Passé composé : j'ai lu le livre
not lus
oh fr? my tutor told me it was general for school tho im not entirely sure
À + le = au
Nah I'd find that weird
thankyou
oh okay
Not giving francophone vibes
Anyways if you were to say collège you'd say au collège
Because French when spoken doesn't really distinguish singular or plural well for most nouns so they just use a billion articles to make it clear
agh alright
That's really the main thing
The verbal participles only get declined like adjectives BTW when the object is a pronoun
so apart from some article and sentence bits i did pretty good ?
And would you be surprised to learn this is also due to French being bad at distinguishing it's pronouns in speech
Definitely!
For a beginner 100%
ohh
You'll iron out the kinks later
it took me a while to know when to put ‘pour’ in sentences like ‘J’utilise mon portable pour…’
Don't forget to complete the passé composé
"Je suis allé et j'ai joué
You forgot "j'ai"
pronouns are pretty confusing already with how they change verbs so i should really focus on that soon tbh
Oh boy wait for that landmine to explode when you learn the subjunctive
ohh thankyou
It's similar to English, I mean we do the same thing
They just do more of it cause we're cringe
true but just takes some getting used to
Oh definitely
Especially if it's your first time learning that
There are bigger fish in the sea though
Nop dinde : féminin, donc "de la dinde"
Du porc, avec du pain, des pommes de terre (on met souvent un pluriel pour les pommes de terre) et de la salade.
Et j'ai joué (l'auxiliaire est obligatoire au passé composé, sauf construction spécifique)
