Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Most speakers these days would, but it’s technically optional
Typically, the rule is pronounce the "s" in positive sentences and don't in negative sentences. That said, in casual conversation, we sometimes don't pronounce it, even when we technically should. We understand from context which was meant.
In some contexts where it’s positive, you actually can’t pronounce the s (well, you could if you really were repeating yourself but it’s not natural)
Mon chien est plus con que le tien
-> pronouncing the s there would sound really odd
Oui, c'est vrai... Il doit y avoir une règle mais, comme d'hab, je ne la connais pas :/
C'est vraiment chiant de ne pas avoir des règles
Wait, did I just say "not having period"?
Should I say "ne pas avoir DE règle"?
So optional, not forbidden, right?
Yes, de règles is correct because it's a negative sentence.
But does saying "des règles" automatically mean like.. menstruation?
No
