Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
frenchgrammar
cod - direct
je mange le croissant
je le mange
je mange les croissants
je les mange
je mange la pomme
je la mange
Coi - indirect (à)
je parle à Marco (person)
je lui parle
je parle à Marco et Julie
je leur parle
je vais à Paris (place)
j'y vais
sometimes it can be à something else that isn't a person nor place, but you'd use y
je pense à conduire
j'y pense
when do we use "en"?
passé composé - avoir/etre + past participle
this is for one time actions that cannot be redone
for example: ce matin j'ai bu mon café (this morning, i drank my coffee). i cannot have done this again, unless i have a delorean and can time travel.
how to make the past participle:
some are irregular
être = été
avoir = eu
but the general gist is:
er - é (parler -> parlé)
ir - i (finir -> fini)
re - u (répondre -> répondu)
when etre or avoir
please see below (DR MRS VAN DER TRAMP) and also reflective verbs (je me... tu te...)
for example je me leve (i get myself up) -> je me suis levé (i got myself up
en is for de/des/du/de la
tu as combien de voitures?
j'en ai trois (i have 3 of em)
j'ai peur de lapins
j'en ai peur
combien de* unless you mean "how many of the cars"
umm if the sentence was
Prete-lui ton couteau, s'il tu plait, il ......... a besoin pour couper cette tarte
voitures is still plural tho
désolée 🙇♀️
Try putting couteau into the second sentence
And see what you'd be replacing
okay so
lui/leur doesnt work because its not people
le doesnt work because its not cod
y doesnt work because its not people/place
is it "en"?
l'imparfait
describing: atmosphere, habits
forming l'imparfait:
get nous (nous parlons)
remove -ons (parl)
and add these endings
je -ais (je parlais)
tu - ais (tu parlais)
il/elle - ait (il parlait)
nous -ions (nous parlions)
vous -iez (vous parliez)
ils/elles - aient (ils parlaient)
ONLY IRREGULAR:
etre -> ét-
j'étais
tu étais
il était
nous étions
vous étiez
ils étaient
Yep, can you see what the sentence would be without the pronoun?
Y doesn't generally refer to people though, careful about that
Être is the only irregular afaik
oui c'est ça
can u give me a sentence that uses y but not for people/places
J'ai pensé à mes vacances
J'y ai pensé
anything thats not a person with à would be y
