Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

pronunciation ’ai’

Yeah

#

The prononciation depends on the region/accent

#

I personally prononce “j’ai” [jé] “fait” [fé] “est” [é]

#

Faire is quite different because you can’t prononce it “fér”

#

Unless you have a VERY VERY strong southern accent

#

You should wait for another French speaker that has a different accent so that you can compare

Thank you so much!

#

So the safe choice/neutral is pronouncing a of these as è?

You will be understood anyway

not a native but afaik
j'ai uses /e/ in IPA (which is é)
and the ai in aimer, faire, and fait is /ɛ/ (which is è)

Hi! Native speaker here. I tend to pronounce those verbs in both the è and é way. It just depends.
