Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

The sentence doesn't make much sense in English to me
Déménager = to move houses (change your living location), so it's not that, regardless

#

What's the context?

#

I want to say that i have moved myself from one chair to another

#

like I am not sitting there anymore

I'd say J'ai changé de place or J'ai changé de chaise, if I understand what you mean correctly

bright axle
#

yeah

#

that's it

#

Thank you! So it is more suitable to use these verbs instead of bouger or déménager

As said above, déménager is really to move houses (it can also be said quite ironically though, but it wouldn't make much sense in that context anyway); bouger could work but the natural sentence here is with changer

but for moving my office (from 3rd floor to 5th floor) in that case what would be used?

#

Déménager could work

bright axle
#

Like im moving in another room to work

#

im not working anymore on the 3rd floor but on the 5th

Well, if you move your office definitively by taking all of your stuff and never come back to the 3rd floor, you can use déménager

#

If you just go to work in another room for a day, you can't use déménager

#

Basically, you can use déménager if you're the owner/tenant of a house/an apartment and sell it/stop paying your rent to move all of your stuff in a new place that you've bought/rented

#

In all other cases, if it's not said ironically, you'll have to use other verbs like changer, partir, déplacer, aller, etc.

#

I hope it makes sense

bright axle
#

it is very clear now

Thank you so much!
