Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
HELLO
im a mac iser
insteall ABC EXTENDED as a mac keyboadd in settings
then you will see
so on mac there are combinations of option + letter for the accent alone
and after that you press the letter u want
for example
option + c = ¸ (tail)
option + c AND THEN C = ç
option + e = ´
;kbd
Il existe plusieurs méthodes pour taper les accents. Le plus facile est d'installer une disposition de clavier mieux adaptée à les taper.
There are several ways to type accents. The easiest way to do this is to install keyboard layout that facilitates typing them.
Popular keyboard layouts // Dispositions populaires :
- Canadian Multilingual Standard (CSA on macOS): https://kbdlayout.info/kbdcan
- US International: https://kbdlayout.info/KBDUSX/
- QWERTY-FR: https://qwerty-fr.org/
- BÉPO: https://kbdlayout.info/kbdfrnb

option + ` = ``
je suis en train de lui parler
Yeah I have discovered this, but it's just really slow when I try to do dictation on my mac
with time you will get used to it
i used to not be very good at it either but with time ç é è became second nature
CMS is a great option that doesn't rely too heavily on deadkeys.
And the auto correction is still in English mode, so it often changes my french spelling into English words
it depends i fyou like your [];',./ keys to be those keys
i turned it off
it only does red squiggly
but never auto for me
but i just type with the option+accent+letter
using abc extended
i would also say install a french dictionary on your mac
Any recommendations? I found a few but they are not very good. I am particularly looking for a french conjugation dictionary that should look pretty much like https://conjugator.reverso.net
Conjugate an English verb with Reverso Conjugator at all tenses: indicative, past tense, participle, present perfect, gerund. See list of irregular verbs in English and conjugation models.
mac preinstalled one?
conjugation is by heart at this point
I can't yet 😅 especially the complex tenses and irregular verbs
google is your friend
you have no idea how many times ive googled "XXXX conjugaison"
The point of having the built-in dictionary is so that I don't have to open browser and google and type...
and by typing more you learn by heart
There are also times when I don't know what the original form of a conjugated word is, and googling often leads to irrelevant results, but built-in dict can often correctly identify it
im not sure
lets take mangeons
if nor you can guess
or google the conjugated and get the infinitive
keyword for thede googles is "conjugaison"
But it's a shame that the dict doesn't have a conjugation table
bur i just google
in conclusion with abc extended
not only do you get all your letters ad they are
and all they keys as they are
all you need is option + letter to make the accent root
and then press the lettee ya wbat
I will try this, thank you!
@opal grail What is the difference btw ABC extended and the regular US keyboard?
option + e = é
as oppsoted to ´ only and you can make á for example (doesnt exist in french)
option + c = ç
but with extended its just the tail
option + ˋ = weird helix thing
but with extended tou can make è and à
so basically accent and you can choose the letter
i used to be on abc (not extended) so my accents were limited to a letter
like option n = ñ
but now i can make the squiggly and type in other letters like ã
With both US and ABC extended, I have to do:
(option + E) then E to make a "é"
(option + `) then E to make a "è"
oh really?
voilà
ˆ (i think is option 6?)
´ e
ˋ (~ next to 1)
ç - C
With US, option + C = ç
With ABC extended, option + C = ¸, (option + C) + C = Ç
i think unless ure lesrning turkish
stick with usa then
because no use to ş or ļ
for example
so you have all the accents
ˆ = option + I
¨ = option + U
is ^ option 6? i
yeah
i knew it haha
with extended its 6 because they swapped i for sth else
but yeah youve got everything
hust write it in a post it
and practice typing using them
it took me a while to grasp acvents in french from option + root + letter
but with time i can type italian even, turkish and portuguese quickly
practice makes perfect
