"depuis que j'étais jeune" would only make sense in the past.

Je savais le faire depuis que j'étais jeune - At that time, I'd been able to do it ever since being young

i mean both sentences mean the same thing. Both of them are stating you're able to do it since childhood but i get the grammar part of it tho thx

Or at the very least it's constrained to the past

Or "I had been able to do it since I was young"

okay yeah this is less constraint but usually you can say "i can do this/i have the ability to do this ever since i was a kid"

so i was wondering if french could of went like

j'ai la capacité pour faire ça depuis que j'étais jeune

but apparently its either just u put every word in present tense

to say that

or u say you were able to do some by putting everything in past
