Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
I never heard that in English, what does that mean ?
depends on the word
-âtre for some colours
-ouiller for verbs, sometimes
not something I think about a lot though
usually french adds more words or something similar to make it clear
Yeah, I was guessing it may be something more like a word around the adjective. Thank you for this! I was trying to come up with something less boring to title a Spotify playlist I'm making of French songs that have a "chill" vibe to me. I was thinking something along the lines of "chill-ish" haha
It's when the word you're using to describe something isn't quite right but works enough. It's nothing formal or officially used. There's most likely a true, official word that would work better in place of adding "ish" to a word, but the person speaking either can't think of it or is just not wanting to put the energy in to find a better suited word. 😅 That's my best shot at explaining it anyway.
Closest I can think of is "Un peu chill"
I could also see myself writing something like Chillâtre to be silly
ooh, I might do that one. I enjoy playing around with words. I'm nowhere near ready to do that with French yet, but it is almost painful for me to use such a typical name for my playlist. 😅 merci beaucoup
So in french we say "genre" before the word,
