you can sort of think of it as saying "i do it in this way"
But gramatically why is it there

the thing that probably tricked you – if you’re an English speaker – is that French uses « de » where English uses ‘in’ for adverbials like this. So, English would say ‘in this way’ but French would instead say « de cette façon/manière »
