Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Que makes sense if there is a subordinate clause after "that". But we have the pronom by itself, so it's gotta be the demonstrative pronoun. "Ils nous ont dit ça/cela" is the right answer.
I see, thanks. I checked again and there is another sentence coming after this. It makes sense now
whole phrase was "they told us that it was very quiet"
Another sentence, or another clause?
In that case, que is the better option.
Ah, yeah.
'Ça' would be that in terms of this specific thing instead of connecting two clauses.
If you can replace it with 'this', then it's likely 'ça'. If you can't, it's 'que'.
Hm can you explain in examples
I like that (this specific thing).
J'aime ça.
I like that he is kind.
J'aime qu'il soit gentil.
'Que' connects clauses. It does not refer to a noun.
Omg thank you ❤️
