Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
What’s the text you wrote? It’s hard to know why “il a dit” would be wrong without more context. Would using “he said” where you used “il a dit” be wrong if you were writing the same text in English?
Just to add, did your teacher mark « il a dit » or did they mark « il a dit que » ? In English, conjunctions can be dropped but in French they are mandatory. I often see English learners saying something like « Il a dit elle avait tort » when it should be « Il a dit **qu’**elle avait tort. »
Again, it’s optional in English (he said she was wrong/he said that she was wrong) but mandatory in French.
We had to write a text about a book, which also quotes the speech of Charles de Gaulles. So i wrote il a dit in a summary. I think my problem is, that i dont know if you can use the passé compose, which signalises the indirect speech in a summary
But also, why couldnt you use it, when the speech of Charles de Gaulles in Ludwigsburg happened in the past. I would understand if you need to use the présent in a summary when writing about actions in the book, but the speech was a real thing that happened (?)
Do you have an example of one or more full sentences you wrote where "il a dit" was marked as wrong?
She also marked il a ajouté
Oh this might be because she wanted you to use the historical present
No, she added the normal present form at the side
Idk, i will just ask her tomorrow then. She'll probably tell me sum shit and then add nothing to it like everytime
