Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
It just makes more sense for the sentence tbh.
I would like him to be there vs I like that he's there
Both would take the subjunctive, but the second one is a little odd with no context
Yeah i get it, is there any other verbs or expressions that happens to be in différent mood or tense as we saw in the verb aimer for subjonctif ?
It's not so much verb dependent as it is context dependent
The tense of the first verb doesn't change whether or not you'd need the subjunctive there
j'aime que tu sois là
j'aimerais que tu sois là
j'aurais aimé que tu sois là
the meaning changes, but not the need for the subjunctive
and it would work the same for pretty much any verb that triggers the subjunctive
it just depends on the meaning that you're going for
Thank you for your response and May i ask you what is the logic of this rule, does this apply to all verbs that require subjunctive
That's an example of ne explétif, and no it doesn't apply in all cases of the subjunctive, it's more specific than that: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/ne-expletif/
I thought that ne explétif is only used in subjunctive mood but it is not only used in subjunctive as i can see in the examples of that site right ?
