Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
you can do both and they mean two different thkngs
As in?
in english you always need the how to connect the two verbs, but in french savoir can just directly take the infinitive
so you say je sais nager
Yeah
or je sais parler français
but just like you can say je ne said pas quoi faire
you can also you comment
Okay, the thing I'm confused about is on lawless and in my classes we were always taught not to use comment. And you said you can use both but they mean different things? So what's the difference, for example, between 'Je ne sais pas faire' and 'Je ne sais pas comment faire'
when what you know if the verb, don’t use comment
-
Je sais pas comment faire = I don't know how to do it
-
Je sais pas comment expliquer = I don't know how to explain
-
Je sais faire du feu = I can make a fire
-
Je sais conduire = I can drive/swim/etc
I'm still confused. I know what those sentences mean but I don't know when you're supposed to use comment and when not
Is it just a rule of certain verbs you use comment and certain not?
with comment is emphasis on how - the way that you do it
without comment is a matter of whether or not you have the capabilities to do the thing
"je sais nager" = I know how to swim, I can swim, I have the capabilities to swim
"je sais comment nager" = I know how I should swim, the way to swim in this situation
Thank you very much
