Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
i have a test coming up and this is whats on it :
interro:
le partitif / j'aime le-la-les / ne pas de/d'
les verbes prendre, apprendre, comprendre, boire
répondre aux questions avec le partitif
i practiced the conjugations for les verbes but the partif gets me a bit
i know that le is for masculine
and la feminine
and les plural
but im confused on when to use the d or the l
the partitive is basically for indefinite quantities
j’ai bu le thé = i drank the tea
j’ai bu du thé = i drank (some) tea
de + le = du
de + les = des
le and la become l’ before a vowel
l’homme but la femme
ça c’est tout, je pense
It’s silent, homme might as well be spelled omme
ohh
help this confuses me so much
so u basically use d for more specific things
and l for more general
i think?
indefinite
it's not perfect, but generally some and a(n) indicate indefinite quantities in english
so d is for more general things
i have some apples = j'ai des pommes
and l for specific?
the distiction is definite-indefinite not general vs specific
an apple can be specific or general
same with the apples
but the former is indefinite while the latter is definite
j'ai des amis = i have friends
j'ai les amis les plus cools du monde = i have the coolest friends in the world
