Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

ig répulsif and révoltant can have similar meanings as well

Well dégoûtant is equivalent to disgusting and I guess it is mainly used for disgusting material things and you can use it for immaterial ideas too

1- Les manières dégoûtantes ( immaterial)
2- un insecte dégoûtant (material)

As for écœurant it translates to sickening.
Mostly used for immaterial things like behaviour, days ( a sickening day), journeys, people's reigns. And it is rarely used to describe material things.

Répugnant means repugnant or inacceptable which is quite different than the other two.

le nouveau plan nous semble répugnant.

Les manières dégoûtantes*
Un insecte dégoûtant*

Was my explanation right though?

"Répugnant" is used for "a more professional way of speaking"
"Dégoutant" is used for a more common way of speaking
And you can use "Dégueulasse" for not professinal way of speaking (slang i think?)

#

And dégoutant/dégueulasse is more ised for food in general but that's not false to use répugnant.

So they all have the same meaning

#

What about écœurant

Before eating a banana
"This banana seems moldy, that's.." = cette banane à l'air d'être moisie, c'est répugnant/dégoutant

After eating a banana :
"This banana was moldy, that was.." = cette banane était moisie, c'était dégueulasse/dégoutant

Like "eating 2kg of nutela is disgusting" = "manger 2kg de nutela est écoeurant"

Oh you are just thinking of it not actually in front of such a situation

Yea, you choose the word in the context

# mint dune So they all have the same meaning

i had a high feeling they would have similar meaning, not necessarily perfect synonyms but synonyms are synonyms as im sure you can replace something thats disgusting for inacceptable.

"The idea of people eating snails to me is disgusting/inacceptable/sickening"

#

its just context
