I think frenchies might be more inclined to say "Ello" as an attempt for "hello" over "allô" but they sound fairly similar
when in Rome do as the Romans do
so I would do in Paris as parisiens do 
a simple bonjour, bonsoir, salut, ca va and you will be chillin' 
Don’t worry I did bonjour during sunlight and bonsoir the moment the sun went down
I have heard the swiss people saying "ello" quite often as well in casual settings :)
