Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
hi @mighty spade starting is one of the harder things to do when learning a language espesially with so many options. it really depends on how you like learning and what works for every person
for example, i find learning through stories fun and eays
Yeah ive been looking through different methods and theories. Grammar study in my experience just doesnt work for me and i really dont understand it no matter how its explained, so ive been looking into more input heavy methods. Based on like, krashen
But its left me a little lost on where to start and the process to do
look, i can try and explain to you grammar in easy ways if need be :)
where are you from?
Australia
nice
if you speak any other languages
maybe that can help learning French too
as relating something ESP. grammar to a lagnauge you know would make sm sense
I do not. Just english. Little bit of basic japanese but not much
but also, there are some rules in french where you just gotta rememeber as they are unique to French
French language skills include speaking, listening, reading and writing.
1st Level French is the start
Ill take a look
videos can help too
EasyFrench is a good resource for beginners

Yeah, the idea was watching and listening to a lot of stuff. Look up words here and there and let the brain goblins figure out the grammar side for me like it did with english
yeah, if you ever find yourself stuck and unable to find answers (or digestable answers) you can always ask #salle-de-classe
I was gonna do reading but i cant really discern how a word sounds that way so subtitled videos seems the way to go. Fremch subtitles i should clarify
EasyFrench is good for the way they transcribe
solely on the basis, they will not paraphrase to make it easier to read
they type as they sepak
so you can follow
Yeye. Im not expecting to understand muvh for a while but that should fix itself over time. Though ill probably be unable to avoid looking at that conjugation table eventually
its pretty okayy
Are there any tv shows to recommend. They dont necessarily have to be easy. Can get something from it regardless i think
again the subtitles wont be accurate. but for beginners it will have to be very baby things
like the 3+ section on netflix
i might subtitle Gaspard et Lisa soon so people can understand
its a good resource but no subtitles exist for it
Makes sense.
so dont jump the gun and go for movies for adults, let alone for teens
is gonna have to be cartoons for now :P
because you will end up with so many questions with answers that will lead you clueless
With my current vocab both will be slow so im not bothered but ye probably for the best. I have a lot of free time so can always do both. Will still pull a ton of words if i make notes. But yeye. I got a few things here i csn start with so i guess ill do that. Should probsbly try to strike a balance of it being comprehensible input but also something that can hold my attention. Lucky for me i do like cartoon
yeah thats good
Miraculous Ladybug is good
Ohhhh ye i forgot about that one. I remember being recommended that in general back in high school.
the storyline is going to shit and feels like its being made longer on purpose
but like
its repetitive enough its okay for the first few season
to get the language in right
again, ask if u got questions we are here alwayas
On that note do u know any dictionaries to use. Apps would be preferable since i only have my phone most of the day. But website is fine if need be
Is that french to english or just french
just french
but french to english mostly you can google it
i would say its reliable enough
Ah ok
WordReference.
