Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Hey, saw some mistakes here.
« Il est jaunes et noirs balance »
The subject here is singular « il » so the adjective should be singular as well. Did you mean to say, 'He is equal parts yellow and black'?
« Il adores nagering »
So, check your conjugation for « adorer » here because the third person ending generally doesn't end with -s. Also, I'm guessing you translated « swimming » literally, and -ing forms don't really apply here. The -ing verb form, called the gerund, is often interchangeable with the bare infinitive in English; you can say, 'I love drinking' and 'I love to drink' equally. In this regard, French only does the infinitive so in the sentence, 'I love [drinking/to drink] some coffee', French would render it as, « J'aime boire du café », not « boiring » or the French equivalent « buvant ».
The gerund does exist in French but it's a lot more niche IMO compared to the English equivalent
thank you for the feedback, have i now corrected my mistakes?
C'est mon poisson rouge. Il s'appelle Dio. Dio a cinq ans et vit dans un aquarium. Il est jaune et noir balance. Dio est gentil, rapide et joyeux. Il adore nager et il déteste être seul.
Close, but the first part is a bit tricky with « balance »
because, 'He is yellow and black balanced' is kinda… off to me
I would just remove that final adjective and say it as « jeune et noir »
oh i thought that ment color
or replace it with the adverb « également (equally) » placed after the verb
colour is « la couleur »
ok
« balancé » just means, well, balanced
then how would you write in color?
because then i could write il est jaune et noir - in colour-
I'd probably go « de couleur X et Y »
Bookmark that site, it's a bilingual dictionary
X et Y?
oh i see
C'est mon poisson rouge. Il s'appelle Dio. Dio a cinq ans et vit dans un aquarium. Il est jaune et noir de couleur. Dio est gentil, rapide et joyeux. Il adore nager et il déteste être seul.
so this is right?
the colours come after
after?
yes, X and Y means the adjectives you just said
de couleur jaune et noire
where it agrees with couleur (a feminine noun)
so how do i fix it?
« il est de couleur jaune et noire »
do note the examples in the site I sent you
« La police recherche un véhicule de couleur grise … ce n'est pas une bonne idée de porter un pantalon de couleur vive … (The police are looking for a grey-coloured vehicle … it's not a good idea to wear brightly-coloured pants …) »
P sure they meant scales
Balance = weight scale
Écailles = scales on an animal
