Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
bonjour @soft magnet this thread is for questions! if you have any do ask em here :3!
I have a french speaking exam tomorrow and i was wondering if someone could help me with this

wbat do u need help wifh
basically im in like high school french in america
its nothing too crazy
and
i need help with like forming the subjunctive
in french because i struggle with this a lot
and my french is not necessarily fluid either so I was wondering how can I improve on this
youre in luck because the french also have issues with this
ok
we use it when we say XYZ que subject+verb
yeah
we use a acronym in class
called
UWEIRDO
which stands for like
uncertanty
wishes
i forgot the rest but
its like
i forgot
o
damn
we take present ils and remove ent + the endings above
exception of course of avoir and aller
as always
absolument

i have today to get decent at it so i can do decent on my exam tomorrow
i think youre gonna ace it
gl
the only concern i have is like

most commonly used verbs
mhm

and then you subjunctive them all

alright

mobile keyboard is a pain
but i can type fadt normally
o
i can too but french keybaord layout kinda o.O
like
thatas
bonne chance
In all honesty unless you’re also learning the subjunctive imperfect and pluperfect, it can be rather easy to form the subjunctive as long as you know how to form the stem and the endings
hm?
more endings to roots
The real challenge is knowing when to use the subjunctive
bro its high school french in america
its not that crazy
he just wants me to use it once in the entire conversation
oh lirweally like
il faut que XYZ
once
bam
youre sorted
yes
but he needs to hear it
so he says
try using it 2 or 3 times so i can hear it just in case
mhm
gl
In that case just be a good boi and say, « Je veux que tu réussisses (I want you to succeed) » or something
j'espere que tu Xyz
he is gonna give me two pictures
il faut que tu xyz
je veux que tu xyz
than he is going to ask me questions for 4 minutes
je souhaite que tu xy
not (positive) espérer
and than i have to just endure those hard quesitons
and than also endure that i have to also comment on the other picture as well
so
yeah
its gonna be tough
espérer/penser/croire only take the subjunctive in inverted questions and in negative forms
No, the negative has to be in the main verb
J’espère que tu réussis
Espérè-je que tu réussisses ?
Je n’espère pas que tu réussisses.
Yeah, it has to be on the main verb
oh you were adding to my point
b de bye
