Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
For your first question, the preposition « à » is commonly used for going to a place but not necessarily. Prepositions in French can be a bit random and « jouer » here is no exception. The verb alone without a preposition usually means to play a role like an actor playing a character (Robert Downey Jr joue le rôle de Sherlock Holmes); the verb with the preposition « à » means to play a game (je joue au rugby avec mes amis); the verb with the preposition « de » means to play a musical instrument (Brett joue du violon dans sa chaîne YouTube TwoSetViolin); and so much more.
Just to give you a sense of the randomness, « à » can mean either 'to' or 'from'. For example, « je vais au marché » means I'm going to the market but « j'échappe à mon patron » means I'm escaping from my boss (or, I'm avoiding my boss)
For your second question, this is why accents are important and mandatory because, yes, « ou » does mean 'or' but that's not « ou », that's « où » with that little slash at the top which means where.
« Il y a un parc où elles(1) peuvent se promener seules »
'There is a park where they(1) can take a walk alone'
(1) In case you're confused as to why it's « elles » here, it's because the paragraph used the words « personnes âgées » which are feminine plural. Pronouns agree with the gender and number of what's been said before. So, if instead of « personnes âgées » you had said « les vieux », the pronoun would be « ils ».
damn bro thanks a lot
