Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

There are a handful of verbs that use être instead of avoir for passé compossé. I learned it through the acronym DR. MRS. P. VANDERTRAMP. Here is an image of the full list of Vandertramp (for short) verbs in the infinitif and passé compossé forms. Do keep in mind that these verbs add that extra e with a feminine subject and add that s when it's plural.

I'm honestly not sure why these verbs use être instead of avoir but here are the ones that have that rule.

In addition to this, you also need to use "être" with pronominal verbs.

#

And I find this image to be helpful for remembering verbs that require "être".

Yeah the Vandertramp verbs are all based around some sort of movement which is something to keep in mind.
