Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

this is called conjugation. Verbs have different forms based on the subject (who is doing the action) and tense (how and when is the action happening)

#

the same thing happens in English: "You eat" but "The boy eats"

#

"I am" -> "you are" (subject change)
"I am" -> "I was" (tense change)

#

French works the same way, but with an even higher focus on conjugation, with more tenses, and overall more forms for every verb

#

here is the present tense conjugation for "manger" for instance (semi-regular -er verb)

Conjugation is very important in French. You're basically going to need to think about it for every sentence you'll make, and there is a lot to know about.
For the time being, you should focus on present tense. It's the tense for actions that are currently happening. It's the most common one, and the most important one.
You can start reading about conjugation here for instance: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/verb-conjugation/
