Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

In Europe it's basically only used on the phone. In Canada, it's much more common and isn't out of place in the day-to-day

on the other hand, in Europe you can hear “hello” (pronounced “ello”) in day to day speech. It’s less formal than “bonjour” but more neutral than “salut” (informal) or “coucou” (very informal), so many people use it when your closeness with someone is more ambiguous.

"hello" in person, maybe in text
never on the phone, only "allo"

so if im talking to my brother (who im not close enough to use coucou with but can 100% use salut), i could say ello in person?

#

and allo over the phone with anyone? or just with people i’d be close enough with to say salut/ello to (not an employer, person of authority etc)

you could use coucou with any family member inside your immediate family, even if you're not particularly close

although some peopel find it a bit feminine
