Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
i just dont understand with complements when to keep the definite article or not
i know with concepts u keep like de l'amour
or like with reine or roi
le roi des glaces
and in my grammar book it said that places usually keep it
but it feels like im missing or misunderstanding something
In general, you keep the article when you want it specific.
manuel de monstres -> it's a textbook about monsters in general as in monsters from all over the world
manuel des monstres -> it's a textbook about a specific kind of monster like maybe monsters in a specific continent
"des" i could imagine in a game for example, where it can encompass all monsters in the context of the game
yeh it came for a game
thank you
why is it "du" here and not "de"
honestly this is so frustrating for me lmao i just cant seem to get it
like its right there why "yeux de biche" but "complément du nom"
i dont know the rule
THE noun the complément refers to
the other is describing "eyes of A deer", any deer, not a specific deer
but complément du nom
then nom could be anything
the noun could be anything
like i understand complément du nom as complement of the noun or the possesive but i just have the impression thats not being used here
where "complément de nom" as noun complement
but it seems that complément du nom is understood like "noun complement" and i just dont understand why it keeps the le cause with other nouns u dont include it
yeah but it's THE noun it's the complément of. it can't be the complément of several nouns
i simply do not understand
thank you for your help though
its much appreciated it
ill try to ask again but phrase better
it seems like "complément de nom" exists as a variant but it isn't the standard way to say it
