Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
We definitely say this in Canada
that’s so weird? all of the canadians that commented on it (it turned into a family discussion- just my luck) said it wasnt
i dunno why they said that then
What all did they say?
it became kinda a debate about if it was correct or not. they all said a mixture of ‘nobody says that’, ‘thats not grammatically correct’, and ‘what dialect is that from, because canadians dont use that’
i knew the french do because thats how i learned it
What was "oui, ça va" a response to? That might shed more light on things
but even taking it to my québécois friend and he said no
‘comment ça va’
i first heard it from 2 french ppl i knew speaking to each other
and initially went 🤨
I don't know what your family was on about, but my boss, a native Québécois has definitely responded with that to that question
but they said they rly only use it informally with their rly close friends
ok so canadians do too?
Yes
thank youuuu
If it's a response to "how's it going" it's a bit weird to respond with "yes", maybe that's what they meant?
(Est-ce que) ça va? => Yes/no question => Oui, ça va
Comment ça va? => Open question => Ça va
with specifically comment ça va they usually say ça va
im not usually the one who says it because i tend to ask first
ty tho 😋
i’m 100% re-opening this family argument
Bon courage 😭
interesting, someone correct me if i’m wrong but i believe oui is a common enough response in France
Answering "how" with "yes"....?
Ça va is very very different from "comment ça va"
