Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Sorry for disturbing but
when using Quand Qui Quel etc should we put the verb first then the subject

#

Like qui t'a donne ce cadeau

#

Or Qui as tu donne ce cadeau

#

Quand tu vas venir or Quand vas tu venir

There’s three ways of asking a question in French:

  1. The formal inversion
    Tu connais Mark -> Connais-tu Mark ?
  2. The neutral est-ce que
Tu connais Mark -> Est-ce que tu connais Mark ?
  3. The informal interrogative tone (it’s when your voice goes up at the end)
Tu connais Mark -> Tu connais Mark ?

The same apply to your question, take the phrase « Tu partiras » :

  1. Quand partiras-tu ?
  2. Quand est-ce que tu partiras ?
  3. Quand tu partiras / Tu partiras quand ?

Not in that order

#

« Quand tu partiras » is obligatorily a relative clause, if you want to put quand out front in a question you must use est-ce que or invert

#

I think the same goes for all question words?

Oh yes I misunderstood you sorry I thought you meant that only the est-ce que example works and the inversion/intonation doesn’t
