it is my belief, (might be wrong,tho) that, at least in romance languages, like french, italian and spanish left and rightt is used in the sense given in the thread. .... in every direction is a bit forced, sounds like that to me.

of course, French language reverses the order of the phrase, but the intention is the same.

I think italian reverses it too. Destra e sinistra

spanish uses a derecha e izquierda

so English is the only one that starts the phrase with 'left' izquierda y derecha...
