Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Y replaces à + noun/place and en replaces de + noun/place.
J'arrive à Paris => J'y arrive
J'arrive de Paris => J'en arrive
with the phrase il y a... what would y be replacing there?
also wait what, what is the difference between those to examle sentences
and if en replaces de in a sentence, i also remember from my class that dont also replaces de for something. what is the difference?
The pronoun there is not replacing anything, it’s idiomatic there
J'arrive à Paris -> J'y arrive
I'm coming to Paris -> I'm coming to there
J'arrive de Paris -> J'en arrive
I'm coming from Paris -> I'm coming from there
