(this is a copy pasta from last time I was MoI)

The roadworker title will be given out from the PM or the MoI after a quick screening process of understanding of order of operations.

Road Construction Rules

  • ALL Federal Highways, and State Roads are to be build at level 70.
  • There are to be NO "holes" under roads
  • No stacking dirt on the outside line to make the road appear "supported"
  • All Bridges must be supported by some sort of stone BUILDING material at least every 10 spaces.
  • All Bridges must also have a guardrail of some kind to keep vehicles from falling off.
  • All tunnels must have a stone building material "coating" and be 12x6 in size

** The first focus is to make USABLE roads, no more then 5 wide in any area until full connections are made. We do NOT need 10 wide stone roads due to asphalt arriving later in time. Do only one of the lanes ( not in the buffer zone). North side if the highway is East<->West, East side if Highway is North<->South ( See picture below ) **

Unica

  • The Height of the federal Highways is to stay level with unica (block inside level 70) globally (even if it means tunnelling through a mountain, or making an elevated roadway).
  • This is partly for ease of planning globally, and everyone knows EXACTLY where it is going to be eventually.
  • However also due to maintaining a reliably flat roadway for those that want/need to have a more reliably less bumpy drive. (this is partly to accommodate some players who have legitimate difficulties with bumpy roads)

Federal Law Relevant Rules

  • Infrastructure needs to be built realistically compared to its real-life counterparts. Roads must have an unobstructed minimum roadway height and width of five blocks, should avoid changes in height level over their course as long as that is aesthetically and realistically possible and shouldn’t be built below height 70 for the purpose of flood protection.
  • Federal Highways and State Routes additionally must fit symmetrically into an even number of claims.
  • All roads of a type should have a unified design in their region, determined by the managing authority.
  • Tunnels must have a ceiling and wall coating while bridges are required to have realistic safety and support structures."

Bridges & Elevation

  • All roads MUST be supported. If an elevated bridge is needed it must be supported by stone building blocks of some kind at a maximum of 10 blocks (unless a specific design is approved) and roads that are elevated over the natural land should have guardrails as soon as possible.
  • All Ocean Bridges are required to be built out of T4 materials and are required to have 13 open space block above water in order to allow all kinds of boats to pass. They must also have 10 wide supports in order for large boats to pass through.
  • Tunnels will be required to be lined with T3/T4 materials when available beyond market needs. Tunnels are also required to have 5 open spaces in height to allow for all vehicles (excavator I'm looking at you) to pass through.

Fines

  • Doing mining/excavating/poor roads placement that results in extra work needing to be done in order to fix things, may result in a fine.
  • Any egregious mining under federal highways will result in removal of title and up to a fine where necessary to cover labour to fix.
  • Anyone to have been found "closing the edge of the roads" with dirt to make a highway "appear" supported will have their title removed.

Agreement

  • By requesting the Federal Highway Workers title you are stating that you
    • Have read and understand these rules
    • Will abide by these rules
    • Accept that you will be fined if you do not follow these rules.

**- The PM and MoI reserve the right to remove anyone from the title for any reason if deemed necessary.

  • The PM and MoI also reserve the right to alter verbiage where it was not clear as intention of the guidelines.**

I think I'll do some roads this cycle. Read the rules, accept them.

# fiery light The endgame road layout should look like this

Before asphalt gets unlocked, should we stick to just having stone roads along one or the other edge of the highway? Is it OK to bridge the gap from one edge to another if needed in some places so it can be crossed before we unlock Asphalt?

The first focus is to make USABLE roads, no more then 3-5 wide in any area until full connections are made. We do NOT need 10 wide stone roads due to asphalt arriving later in time.

raven timber
# fiery light yes, picture below to clarify

I did read it, but this is the only section on pre-asphalt, and it is vague:

" The first focus is to make USABLE roads, no more then 3-5 wide in any area until full connections are made. We do NOT need 10 wide stone roads due to asphalt arriving later in time. "

fiery light
#

is 3-5 wide too vague ?

raven timber
#

Should the 3-5 wide be on the side of the road or down the middle? If it's above the terrain won't that block people from crossing the highway unless we build across the rest of the highway?

fiery light
#

in the middle, 1 of the lanes, doesn't matter which, say North side and East side for now, i will add that

I am not "necessarily" requesting federal highway worker request, however, I'm wanting to build a path on the eastern beach that leads to my property so boats don't have to pilot around the tip of the continent. The federal highway district prevents me from doing that. I understand the rules of the federal road worker, as I've done it before, BUT, if I could simply get an existing road worker to dig out a highway level tunnel, I would be happy with that instead of having the title myself.

I don't really plan to work on roads this cycle, so I understand if it isn't practical to give me the title. Worst case scenario, i can just wait until a road worker gets to this section.

I would also be willing to receive the title to dig out a 3x3 tunnel at highway height and then have the title rescinded. I really only want beach access for customers.

Is this an acceptable option for the exit from the federal highway to the Basilica? (964,6)

fiery light
#

but the buffer is supposed to be stone roads, so the ramp part should just be stone road, no ?

weak verge
#

I'm not talking about lines, but about the difference in levels.

fiery light
#

i like the stone more than the asphalt

weak verge
#

this is an intersection and a stone insert is not appropriate in my opinion.

#

Is it supposed to be stone or asphalt on the federal highway?

fiery light
#

there is no intersection on the side of the basilica, the T section looks to be on the south side

#

thats is the buffer, so just stone ramps all around

#

the buffer is stone roads, the highway is asphalt

weak verge
#

On this side, the intersection of the federal road with the local road, even without taking into account the Basilica, is an intersection.

#

As soon as you make a decision, we will do so.

fiery light
#

bottom side can be asphalt in the buffer, as that is a legit road, top side, just stone roads

weak verge
#

If I understood correctly, there is a stone road around the Basilica

fiery light
#

in the buffer, yes, and it ramps down as the basilica sits 1 too low

#

there is a district called "Federal Highways" and one called "Federal Highways Buffer", that is what i mean when i talk about the buffer

weak verge
#

Yes, I understand, but it is shown on the map without highlighting the fields.

weak verge
#

What are the installation instructions for this section of road?

fiery light
#

@burnt bough as the mayor of the local government. Can you comment on this ? I feel like that is going to be an awkward bridge if we bridge all that

burnt bough
#

A bridge might be useful but I'd liked to see the highway start to get there before making any choices on it

fiery light
#

you can at least do the north and east side of the crossroads

# burnt bough Is tier 3 fine for materials then

helping out the MoI here a little: inland bridges have to be at least T2 in make (but are usually seen and handled more as an architectural consistent project and as such can be made of any material that satisfy the artist's and the MoC's interest - in special instances even T1). they have a minimum requirement of distance between undercarriage and water surface so water traffic can pass unhindered. the clearance requirement can be waived by the MoI if the river is not or so rarely used that it has no or very little significance for transportation. this can be done so since the requirement for the highway to be at height 70 is considered higher in priority than to bridge any and all small or unused rivers or other bodies of water. this is to allow for a smother experience on highways (as it was reported several times that driving up and down ramps at high pace can induce dizziness, so those are to be limited to an absolute necessary minimum). please correct me if I'm wrong darkmukke.

hasty shadow
#

@fiery light based off your picture of highways, you want stone road on the buffer, but there is no payment for that. would you be willing to pay even a small amount for laying the stone road in the buffer?

fiery light
# hasty shadow <@211857842607489024> based off your picture of highways, you want stone road on...

you'd have to talk to the MP's they set the law for that. But the buffer isn't mandatory, it is just so people don't claim up against the highway, and so parked trucks don't end up blocking it, the highway itself is the most important. people often build the buffer out because they dig up the stone roads from the early highways when asphalt comes out, as there is no more use for them, that's why they are often in the buffer. but the buffer has never been paid out afaik.

sleek finch
#

It's ridiculous to not have the payout while people are building it, especially since the entire highway district is asphalt, so there isn't a place to replace the stone roads.
Technically at the moment the payout for asphalt is bad because you're getting charged to pick up the stone roads, and unable to get the charge back anywhere.

winged herald
#

according to this: #newspaper message you don't HAVE to do it. you can also not place the stone roads :P

sleek finch
#

So get charged to pick them up, then not be able to place them. Therefore making the usual acceptable profit, less.

#

Its no wonder the highways are in shambles.

@fiery light I just started work and noticed we could use some retaining walls. There are areas where the road sharply cuts thru land and leaves a massive wall of rock and dirt, looking off. Do you think we can get some retaining walls for them? If so, what materials is acceptable. I have access to concrete and its fairly cheap but its up to you. Example of a retaining wall used irl. The dirt is much higher in game.
