I never got that into Wild World...probably my least favorite of the games. Although I never played City Folk much...my friend had it but it just felt like a rehash of the original with a few minor differences.

New Leaf had a lot of great gameplay improvements, but holy fuck the villagers felt like they had all been lobotomized

Well they've split the remake into two because the game was kinda split into two design wise already. Midgar, and then the open world. So they made the first remake, linear, cinematic and story based, they made intergrade.. because they're going to take time and make the second one decent hopefully.
