#Roe v. Wade Overturned

Never too late to abort lindsey graham
Overturned with the ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/24/roe-v-wade-overturned-by-supreme-court-ending-federal-abortion-rights.html
So many “enlightened” leftists assured themselves that republicans would never strike down roe v wade due to it being a big pull for voters and donations
Now that the republican “dogs” have caught their proverbial car, i wonder how much further right their sights will go
no, they just don't care at this point
So much for unenumerated rights, right to privacy, so much for the 9th amendment
they're gonna go for birth control and contraceptives next
Literally yes. Read the full opinion
Clarence thomas says the court should re-consider cases dealing with same sex marriage, contraception
And with this, many states have trigger laws that just went into effect
im sure there could be some loophole to this though
No.
You do not know. Read it
There is no room for thought like that. No hand waving “im sure itll be okay..”
As of now, half the country cannot get a safe abortion without being labelled a criminal
There's no loophole to explicitly denying women's rights
it's terrifying and depressing
If there was some way around it, this wouldnt be such a big deal
For many this will be their first big political upheaval moment
Do not hand wave this. Do not assume it will be fine.
this is life saving medical treatment for a lot of people
This is nation changing shit
it's a massive fucking deal
Nah, this is the kind of shit that justifies violence in response
Sorry discord TOS but whatever
Not only is it denying basic essential rights but also goes against the will of the majority of the fucking country too, it is wholly illegitimate and they can't be allowed to continue
Impeach and remove kavanaugh and amy coney barrett based on their misleading answers during their confirmation hearings
They literally said roe was settled law
They lied to get confirmed. 2 of our justices are illegitimate
3 of our justices were put in by a president who lost the popular vote and had 1 term
Yeah and if the government won't do it the people need to
Keeping eyes peeled for resources on organized protests, they gotta start now
Clarence thomas should but wont resign. His wife was in on j6
But dems going nuclear to remove half the court would have political backlash
Make them look radical, no matter how justified it is
I wish they would see that serving their country and its people is more important than what backlash they'll get. The only people who should be afraid should be the fascists
I am genuinely worried this country is eroding. I thought maybe after trump left things would settle but its getting worse
What will government be like in 10 years, let alone like 50
Worse if we let it
America has hit rock bottom
that reminds me of this, https://www.npr.org/2022/06/02/1102491352/abortion-rights-roe-wade-same-sex-marriage-obergefell-leaked-supreme-court with the logic of “that’ll never get overturned” I wonder what they’ll try to do next
if that makes sence
Thomas's opinion basically calls for same sex marriage and contraception protection to be overturned as well
It is very serious, very real threat and don't let anyone call you alarmist
And yeah not explicitly stated but we should assume, any other women's basic rights like being able to make their own financial decisions or have a job
And whatever the fuck else they can think of for power
If they take away rights to birth control and same sex marriage I'm moving the fuck out of America I swear to God
I'm sure the people who supported this decision woukd love that
If anyone should be leaving it's them
America going backwards
America back at it again
States with trigger laws that have gone into effect with this ruling: Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming
States with pre-Roe abortion bans that are now back in effect and enforceable with the ruling: Alabama, Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin
If you live in one of these, take action and find local protests, call and write to representatives, whatever you can. Fellow Michigan folks I am keeping a lookout on what we can do
i felt physically sick when i heard it
Michigan dissapointing me once again
explain what this mean to me (a brit)
What does what mean
Roe v Wade made abortion a right in the United States
Now that the ruling has been overturned, each state can choose to keep abortion rights or ban them and punish the women who seek them out
And about half the states in the union had previous abortion bans from before Roe v Wade that were put back into effect and others wrote bills that would make abortions illegal the second Roe v Wade was overturned
I believe that's what's up at least. I'm kind of stupid so I may have gotten some wrong
well it's bad because that could force women who were raped to get a child or if they can't financially support one
or pregnancies which could literally cause the person's death if they carried to term
like ectopic prenancies
yea so pro life my ass
i still dk a lot about the topic but yea it's messed up
who would win? a very large chunk of people who support abortion or old white men
it’s literally just simply pro-woman
America fucking sucks
We need amendments to cover unenumerated rights
And it is more important now than ever that we have lifetime appointments in the SCOTUS
who were put there by a fascist
We also need to realistically look at the option of court packing
How do you supposed we do it? Whats the most realistic road ahead for expanding the supreme court
I feel even if dems were able to ram something thru senate to expand the court, they wouldnt be able to get the votes to appoint their justices
I think it would need to start with getting rid of the senate filibuster
Because I think it would take legislation expanding the number of justices on the court? Not sure
Also, the idea of lifetime appointments seems like a problem
Especially if they can lie in their confirmation hearings
This is a very sad day for our country
what makes it worse is that national enquirer was like "depp v heard is trial of the century!!!!" no there's much more important shit going down in american law rn
Synagogue Sues Florida, Saying Abortion Restrictions Violate Religious Freedoms - The New York Times
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/16/us/florida-abortion-law-judaism.html
i love this irony
and anti sodomy laws right
That's what same sex marriage involves
Yep
Also extra scummy that he avoided mentioning Loving v. Virginia
Haha.. oh no
Haha to what
I just found out it got overturned
Confused on the haha still but okay
Sorry just.. just ignore that
what is it with like a few of these big overturns happening like this week
well overturns/unconstitutional rulings
Conservative majority
The US Supreme Court has a conservative majority
so the whole planet?… (american = 🌎) /hj
the worst part of this imo isn't even the abortion, the worst part is that it shows that they can overturn everything else that's been done
What are you talking about
This thread is about a US supreme court decision, I genuinely don't know what else you're talking about when you say the whole planet
do you think the satanic temple will sue similar to the one synagogue?
what's this mean anyway
why didn't he mention it and what makes it scummy
I have a question
Other than money is there any thing preventing someone in a state where abortion is restricted visiting another state to get an abortion?
other than social pressures maybe not, but framing it as a "just money" type thing I think minimises quite how much of an issue it is
assuming the person has the means to do so there currently isn't, but missouri and texas have both attempted to ban out of state abortions before and with roe being dead they could again
banning out of state abortions for those who can’t afford to get around it of course
the mistresses of state politicians will have nothing to worry about
It is at its core a systemic issue about equal rights, not just a money thing
You could argue it's a money thing as rich people will be able to fuck off and get an abortion abroad whereas the average individual cannot, but it is not a money thing, it is about religion and misogyny
Loving v. Virginia ruled that bans on interracial marriage are unconstitutional
Clarence Thomas is in an interracial marriage
It’s scummy because he left out the one that personally applies to him
While saying fuck the rest
You can’t ban someone going to another state for something, that’s pretty much explicitly defined in the constitution that it’s not up to individual states but a responsibility of the federal government to regulate commerce between states and stuff. It’s the commerce clause
this and the video make me so sick
it’s actually infuriating to read and realize this is an actual mindset people have
ohh Yikes
All these stupid men crying about how they disagree with women’s choices are invalid
When asking to be confirmed, the Republican-appointed justices denied their plans to overturn Roe v. Wade -->
real infuriating, they can just whatever they want to get appointed
btw for anyone else living in pennsylvania, vote this november and don’t let anything stop you
the republican candidate openly has said his first order will be outlawing abortion, and has acknowledged that includes cases of rape or incest.
and josh shapiro, the democratic candidate, is qualified af. current attorney general of pa, and also personally challenged trump when he tried to say the election in pa was stolen
What can people who are too young to vote do? I want to do something, but can’t yet
just push out knowledge about it, and educate people the best you can
or riot, i’m down for that too if that’s what it comes to
Aye aye
ya that's what i mean, saying it's just a directly personal finance thing, ignores a lot of systemic issues linked to financial like race, class, and health, etc @proper mauve
john fetterman is also very cool for pa senate
a lot of people will fucking die if they can't get access to safe abortive care
yea, so more people should be fighting like their lives depend on it, cause many peoples’ do/will
Which means right wing states can ban abortions with zero consequence
Well there are consequences
That’s so stupid
But empathy isn't a republican trait
Unless it’s empathy for themselves
No that's just being selfish
yes
Yeah
So pretty much they’re not letting people do what they want with their bodies
Fuck the system
i will be passing this along to every voting eligible person I know
Not to mention it's an impeachment on religious freedom for some faiths
Missouri already did it
no state has a ban on out of state abortions
unless you have a source i haven't seen
It’s a trigger law, it’s automatically effective because they like pre set it
Coleman this spring offered a preview into the possible next frontier of the anti-abortion movement, when she proposed allowing lawsuits against anyone helping Missouri women obtain abortions even if the procedure took place out of state. Her measure didn’t advance in the legislature.
That law only affects Missouri it’s not an interstate ban
boris has said his one smart thing for this season, that’s it until the fall
You know you’ve fucked up when another fascist thinks you’re going backwards
I don't get how the fuck the right to contraception can be overturned
There is no law that specifically states that contraception is a right/not illegal to sell or use.
Just a SC case, which can be overturned
It's what happened with Roe v Wade and is what's going to happen eith the decisions about same sex marriage and the like
That landmark decision is that it’s unconstitutional to prohibit women from getting birth control without a prescription or spouses approval
This shit is literally why I don’t respect people’s political opinions if they voted for Trump
Because they clearly don’t care about the rights of others so they don’t deserve it
I hope this buries the Republican Party
women are the key to changing American politics
ive had a sign for 2 1/2 years now for covid support and things along that line, but i gave it a new paint job today
nice
nice, i might use that for a sign if i head to a protest, if you don’t mind
Lol
Wtf
For anyone living in the DC area, but for general knowledge yeah there’s the Supreme Court justices addresses
General area though I think not exact addresses ope
Hope people can find their other residences too
wait what state are you in john?
their exact addresses are easy to find, i found them on r/196
although that’s home addresses, the ones ^ are their “work” addresses
i don’t stand by doxxing in a public server, but if you seriously want to be part of one of these protests, i can dm you the exact addresses i found
Holy shit, Alito lived like 2 minutes from me
Did you notice Alito was my neighbor?
I did not
damn the onion is going wild https://www.theonion.com/supreme-court-votes-5-4-to-throw-beer-bottle-at-slut-1849106887 https://www.theonion.com/supreme-court-votes-5-4-to-lock-nation-s-toddlers-in-ho-1849106900 https://www.theonion.com/supreme-court-rules-5-4-to-reopen-japanese-internment-c-1849106894
Good
I hope people take it further than media stuff, those 5 justices should not have peaceful lives ever again
They can be impeached, correct?
The SC justices I mean
Yes, technically
although our energy is better spent on using executive action to protect rights as fast as possible and then codifying rights
An acquaintance of mine's Facebook pfp
Gorsuch: 5773 Lookout Ridge Drive, Boulder, CO
Kavanaugh: 3399 Shepherd St, Chevy Chase MD
Thomas: 6665 Rutledge Dr, Fairfax Station, VA
Alito: 8 Westover Terrace, West Caldwell NJ
Barrett: 1133 N Saint Peter St, South Bend, IN
Feel free to copy/paste
o my
Republicans complaining about people protesting
olivia rodrigo: “so many women and so many girls are gonna die because of this” no sugarcoating at all! as it SHOULD BE! and then proceeding to call out the 5 members of the Supreme Court!!

The cruel truth is that overturning Roe will hit poor women and girls the hardest.

Amazing that an 18yo pop singer has a better morality than the president
Biden was also against gay marriage like a decade ago, I’m thinking he does what’s popular a lot
Not to say Olivia still doesn’t have better morality though
Biden is Catholic and was largely elected by Catholics who are a driving force in Christianity as a state religion.
Not defending his voting record but things have changed a lot in 40 years in terms of how Christians politicians are able to wavier from lock step issues like gay marriage and abortion
also use this when planning vacations imo
and i don’t mean camping
but just don’t travel or give any tourism money into states that have anti-choice governments
Many of those “camping is lit” states are anti-choice
Or are actively working on it
If you live in Michigan, there's a petition to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot in november to ensure abortion rights. They need 425,000 signatures
There are no events near me
I mean, there are plenty of places to camp in California
Which btw is where people should actually go for this anyway
Probably one of the only safe places for women in America right now
Not everyone can make it all the way out to california
No but there are major companies assisting people for that
You can search for events near you and change the date range, that's just a generic listing
Disney being one
Oh I see
Not everyone can easily get here but there’s a reason companies with money are trying to help
Because it looks good
Specifically they need the physical signatures, this is important to note
Yes, you have to go to a physical event
But they're doing them around the state so hopefully there'll be one fairly close to everyone
being gay and doing crime today
Mock them
I remember having coworkers mock trans and gay people at work when I first started. If I had was more bold like I am now I woukd have told them to shut the fuck up
I just get too tired at work to want to have conversations like that
Fair
Getting into those types of conversations at work is a slippery slope
Idgaf
Hell yeah. I have strong convictions and have started saying what I think and defending what I think is right and I know that plenty of people think I’m a bitch for it or talk shit on me or whatever, but I’d rather the shitty people hate me than go a single day without standing up for what’s right.
Based
Lets move to canada boys
It's gonna be on the ballot in Michigan in november
Most signatures for a ballot measure in the history of michigan
Thank fuck
michigan number 1
i love Michigan
Can’t relate
Cali moment
oh damn, biden actually did something
It blows my mind that conservatives don’t realize that states have just as much right to require abortion as they do to ban abortion now
Congressional Republicans want abortion to be illegal.
But let me tell you something: As long as I’m president, I will veto any attempt.
I don’t care what they try to do. I will never let it become law.

Man!
Good for Joe
friendly reminder, biden spent his whole senate career trying to get roe v wade overturned
That explains the executive order today
Kinda not relevant in the present day given that he clearly has different stances than before
or, he is doing what the populis wants since his approval rating is down in trump territory
the only person who really knows is him
I don’t care if politicians are following their own personal views or not as long as they’re doing the right things
Same
The horror of a politician doing what the people want…
