The Pioneer Scout challenges get you Tadpole/Possum badges, which you can exchange for stuff
Once you become a possum scout you can upgrade from the small backpack to the standard backpack which has twice the carry weight
There are some decorative items you can get as well as some outfits, but mostly it's for the backpack upgrade
There are also mods for the backpack, which is another reason to continue doing them
A lot of them are pretty easy, but for each one there's usually at least one that's gonna be an absolute bitch to complete
Take the Swimmer badge, for example:

I'm not sure how hard the test is. I know some of the athletics courses were tricky. And I've seen SO many reddit posts asking for help with the "revive another player in the water" part. It's almost impossible to get that by sheer luck, and trying to get hurt...in water...enough to be incapacitated but not dead...also difficult.

It's a bit dated with janky controls and bugs, but most of the games I play are older and I don't keep up with the gaming industry so none of that bothered me

If I'd tried 4 first, I think I would've felt very lost and I don't think the story would've pulled me in. I mean, just the fact that I didn't play the shit out of 4 like I did NV and haven't beaten it says something. It took me playing 76 and getting used to the controls and building CAMPs to get into 4

Totally valid. For me, I'm more forgiving with bugs as long (as they're not game breaking) if I'm having fun. And the story and atmosphere matter more to me than graphics. 4 and 76 obviously have better graphics and a better engine, and that's more important to some people. I get that it can be hard to get into the story if you're being pulled out of it by bad controls or graphics or bugs.
I just didn't find exploring Boston all that fun. There was less wackiness than NV. The color palette kinda feels too bright and happy but also very cool toned, which is weirdly off-putting to me. 3 had the green filter which is still warm and earthy, making it feel inviting even if the atmosphere is desolate AF
Appalachia is brightly colored, but it feels more realistic, and the map is just WAAAAAY more interesting to me
None of this is to say I don't like 4 or that it's bad...I do enjoy it, and plan to finish it, I just haven't gotten into it the same way I got into NV and 76 and I'm glad it wasn't my first Fallout game because of that

When I was really farming, I'd do Morgantown High School which might have a better variety but it's a lot more spread out

you're supposed to put a stick of cinnamon, a star anise and cardamom pods and coriander seeds into a pot with lemon, lime and orange zest, water and sugar
but we didn't have cardamom pods, star anise and a stick of cinnamon so we put in ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, and ground anise seeds
which made it very strong because you're only supposed to infuse the syrup with those three spices, not cook them into it

That's a big part of why I don't really play Cities: Skylines anymore. It relies so heavily on the modding community to make it playable. They've integrated some of the most popular mods into the game, but there is still such a massive lack of assets and some features I'd consider essential missing from the base game that make it so annoying every time there's an update, the game practically breaks.

VATS feels completely useless because I run out of AP instantly. Jump height feels completely unrealistic, even accounting for the fact that I'm used to Marsupial and having a jetpack.
I forgot that being overencumbered won't even LET you run in this game. In 76 you CAN, it just drains your AP and you can't sprint.
