Dude for real
Antman and the Wasp wasnt perfect by a longshot but it still nailed the humor imo
Ant Man is great
Yeah it's not a top tier Marvel movie but it did nail the humor
Scott Lang's friend cracks me up
Michael Pena is the actor
Luis is the character's name
also T.I. was in those movies as one of scott's friends
for some reason
the rapper
Yes! That's him
He was hilarious man
I gotta rewatch Ant Man
The future begins with her.

New teaser!
some review said it had inconsistant pacing or something
but generally it seems to be doing well critically
It's an MCU show. I get it. But still 98%. That's Black Panther level
41K people boutta look real stupid
Based on 10 reviews
Yeah, just not a big enough sample size to extrapolate anything from yet, moon knight's score is based on 232 reviews
I could give it a 0 and that'd impact the score heavily
I think it spells well for it being positively received but I wouldn't expect 98%
I mean on RT it's got one negative review based on 59 that's a good start
Oh I thought that 10 reviews there was what the RT score was based on but now I see the 80
Also 41k dislikes out of 842k ratings makes 95% approval
Yeah that one with the 80 is Metacritic
I know lol
That part was just a goofy
95% audience score tho
I think the audience score will be much lower because of racist mfs calling it woke and racist against white people
I think people forget that having more than 90% of the reviews for a movie be positive is fucking insanely good critical reception. Film criticism has been kinda diluted
People review bombed Moon Knight because they are Armenian Genocide deniers
People review bombed Kenobi because a strong black woman is one of the main characters
Yeah crowd-sourced review scores aren't worth shit either direction
Yup
I feel like it'll be something like this
Well the metacritic score is based on far too small of a sample size to guess anything, what are you basing that prediction on?
Like it could go way up, it could go way down, I'm just curious where the predictions are coming from
Because there aren't really answers to draw from data yet I dunno I'm looking at tv reviews analytically for fun right now
Curious if you had something else you were basing that on that wasn't a review aggregator
Like what the general expectation from people is outside of usual MCU hype
What points to it being so good
Just looking at movies like Black Panther, Turning Red, Ghostbusters 2016 that got a lot of praise but had extreme differences in critic and audience scores because they dealt with themes and people that didn't go so well with conservatives
Oh yeah I totally agree with the expectation of there being a major difference in audience and critical reception
Only white straight males exist in cinema and movies that deviate from that narrative are woke liberal trash
Add Captain Marvel to this list. If Brie Larson shows up it's game over for the audience score
I just was wondering what points to this being an exceptionally well-made show or not as opposed to just a generally average-good one
Seems kinda like if every at-all-good movie or show gets a through the roof critical reception it's hard to tell what actually stands out in quality
Is there something special about the production of this ms. marvel show that sets the expectation that it'll be like, groundbreaking? I haven't seen any promotional material and that's the POV I'm asking from
I think something that points to it being well made is style
It oozes Into The Spider-Verse vibes
Does it??
Into the spider-verse is a gorgeously animated movie, this looks to be live action? What gives that vibe
If I think of into the spider-verse having a style it's totally the animation
Other than that it's pretty typical goofy-kid-turned-superhero with his rag-tag team
The editing, the speech bubbles, soundtrack (from the trailer at least) and the lightheartedness
Oh that's interesting and I could how that would be a nice aesthetic if it's more than just speech bubbles
It a very well executed example of that
Very much but the animation makes it actually stand out IMO, wouldn't be anywhere near the same movie without it
Fair
So many people complained about the movie lol
They called it cheap for not being super fluid animation
I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be super fluid lmfao
Honestly the animation style made it one of the few actually unique superhero movies
Yeah that was very much a stylistic choice
It looks like digital stop motion and I love it
Pretty sure it was both a cost saving thing and a stylistic choice
Miles is animated at a different rate than the others until he gets his act together at the end
I think
A superhero comic movie/show that doesn't have something strongly stylistic/artistic like that movie's animation really has to lean into the writing/character development side to actually be anything significant at this point especially with the sheer quantity of superhero stuff there is anymore
Right
Wtf is RogerEbert.com doing ๐ญ
Like if ms marvel is just a typical teen show with moderately developed characters and a baseline interesting lead, meh
I mean, those could all be very valid points
There's a plethora of teen dramas and comedies out there, if you don't do anything new with it what's the point
Seriously doubt that first sentence
Yeah the first sentence is a tad excessive
But I could see the bit about stale parent/teen dynamics being valid
That's what I was just trying to say
Representation is key and that is a strength of ms marvel as a character
Same. But that's how it is in the comic book so I'm not upset with it. I fully expected it
I mean she's got overprotective parents and she wants to do things on her own
It's not original but it is done well
I hope they deeply explore the cultural dynamic there to make it truly compelling. Representation is important to push and regardless of how well the show is written that is very much a strength, but it would be a disservice honestly to go light on the cultural/interpersonal side and just have it largely be a run of the mill teen drama
It seems to me they really are going to explore the religious side of the show based on what I've seen in the promotional material. Quotes from the Quran are in some of the trailers. They have some shots of them in a mosque too. Also basically the entire production team is representative of who's in the show and who the show is aimed at.
@blazing loom Highest rated MCU project ever
i'll be watching it in roughly 3 hours
give or take
im gonna get home in about 2, and im gonna watch kenobi first
Thats fuckin wack
They did it with Black Panther too
You can tell they're review bombers too because their accounts only have one review ๐
no i just finished it
Oh okay
like 5 secs ago
No spoilers how was it?
I am legitimately impressed by this series
Skeets approval is all I need
The style, the heart, the humor
Everything
Yeah I'm super excited to see it
Sorry bro I gotta volunteer at my karate's summer camp
I think this is probably the single most visually impressive MCU project i've seen in phase 4
Can it be compared to Spider Verse?
i don't think it needs to be compared to anything really
Hmmm I see
Well I'm super stoked to watch it
I am a big Ms. Marvel stan as you know
I mean it stands on its own
I might break out the Kamala collection in celebration of this show's release
Also here's the really ironic thing
I think I enjoyed it more than today's episode of Kenobi
๐
Ok I see
Well I'll be watching it around 9 PM EST (it's late but I've got a packed day today)
So I'll try and ping you right when it's over and we can talk about it
There was so much weird discourse around this episode
Homophobic stuff too like what the fuck lol
@blazing loom Joker 2 is officially happening and the title is revealed
Joker: Folie a Deux
A madness shared by two
Hopefully not named after the Fall Out Boy album Folie a Deux
umm
you do know i hated that movie right
was not a fan
I did not actually
Sorry I thought you just might be interested
I understand
I didn't mean to sound rude
It's just that I've told many people here about my disdain for that movie
Nah it's cool
But THIS is NOT cool
FIRE THIS FUCKFACE DC
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WAITING FOR
it's also after one episode lol
oh...
Critics get to see episodes in advance I'm pretty sure
They need to FIRE THEM
@blazing loom About to start watching Ms. Marvel
@blazing loom ill be hopme in fifteen minutes
@blazing loom Ms. Marvel is the best thing Marvel has ever released
10/10
Literally could not have done better
This is the best MCU project of all time
I'm not gonna agree with that but I think it's absolutely fantastic
Hell yeah dude
By the way
I got peak comic book today
If I had to estimate there are about 30 MCU projects currently released so
im not gonna immediately believe its better than everything
Because believe me I've watched literally everything in the MCU
As have I
I stopped watching half way theough
Got bored
Bruh how
we didnt get to talk much about it
I'm a few minutes into ms marvel and this is really great
im excited to start watching it this weekend
I finished it and I enjoyed the end of the episode
idk why I was bored. It wasn't because I didn't like the characters or anything
How did you like it?
Also yeah we didn't. Sorry
I thought it was really great and so far like Kamala khan a lot more on the show than I do in the comic
What didn't you like about her in the comic? Just curious
Comic always came off to me as kind of obnoxiously teenage almost like a caricature
But the show one so far feels much more real and less like an adult trying to talk like a kid
Adults writing teenagers can be really hit or miss
I understand that. I personally really liked the comic. Especially the G Willow Wilson stuff (volume 1)
But yeah I think they really nailed the character and oh my God Iman Vellani is going to be a star
@normal heron this ezra miller stuff is just sad
maybe they should just make Grant Gustin the DCEU flash
They absolutely should
He's a better fit for the role anyways
and like, not problematic at all lol
definitely true if he's stayed for as long as he has on the show
Yeah Grant Gustin is just better
The fact that DC hasn't fired Miller is downright shameful
i don't quite feel the writing ever quite fully captured the humor of that character but whenever they tried, Grant's charisma definitely sold it
he has bravas
for sure
its just that CW shows are pretty formulaic
Yeah I think Grant is great for Barry Allen
With better writing and a higher budget Flash could be a great show
it used to be
seasons 1 and 2 were quite good
but i get your point
They were more entertaining but if you REALLY take a look at it with a critical eye the writing was NOT good
But it was just dumb fun TV
I really liked it
yeah you right lmao
I just used to be a really big fan of Cisco
loved that character
I liked Cisco a lot
me too
Him becoming Vibe was also cool
Yeah
because that alter ego is actually comic accurate
was nice
I didnt even realize for a while that he was an actual comic character
I'm pretty sure he is
also Tom Felton (from harry potter lol) as Julian Albert was the weirdest thing lol
got added to the cast because of flashpoint then NEVER appeared again after that season
i distinctly remember that
It blew my mind when I realized the actress who played Caitlyn Snow/Killer Frost was also the older sister from Sky High
and also Tom Cavanagh (Dr. Wells/Reverse Flash) was on Scrubs
I know lmao I loved Scrubs
Sky High was a fun movie
except for the ending imo
the "turning everyone into literal babies" thing freaked me out as a kid
Yeah the ending was kind of weird
thats one of the only things i ALWAYS remember from sky high
that and Bruce Campbell playing the gym teacher
I still need to see Evil Dead :(
me too
i always just knew him as the dude who cameo'd in every 2000s spiderman movie
at least when i was younger
Sorry for the shitty photo quality, but here are the issues I picked a couple of days ago.
Iโve got the whole run for both ๐
This is the greatest gotham heroes of All Time
Merch https://moistglobal.com/
I stream every day https://www.twitch.tv/moistcr1tikal
@blazing loom Speak of the devil
We were just talking about the CW lol
i heard superman and lois was actually good tho
Yeah that might be the only good one left
also i hadnt actually heard about the gotham knights show
god that'll 100% be even worse than Titans on HBO Max
Titans did the exact same "no batman here's some younger sidekick characters" type thing
and season 2 actually made me want to burn down a building
I'm not going to watch Titans
like my god they had no idea how to write these characters half the time
I hear it's super edgy for no reason
and every choice they were making just made me madder and madder to the point of ragequitting at the very beginning of the season 2 finale
yeah, i didnt even watch the episode
and i dont know if i'll ever watch season 3 to be honest
i was getting really excited to see Dick's Nightwing costume and then all the other bullshit writing going on made me stop watching before i could see that thing in action
yup and somehow their deathstroke was mediocre at best
it makes the Arrow version of Deathstroke look like the BEST live action portrayal
which it is actually really good
im not roasting it here lol
but it was fuckin CW
and deathstroke deserves a proper big screen treatment
or at least tv with a bigger budget, which they actually kind of had with Titans
but they just goofed it
They started to do something with him in the DCEU and then they just abandoned it
Like the DCEU does
i mean it was literally JUST a post credit scene
they expended on it a bit in the snyder cut but it still wasnt a full arc for the character
Yeah true
But like they didn't build on it at all
We have no idea what was happening there
I honestly do recommend the first 2 seasons of Arrow
Malcolm Merlin and Deathstroke were both quality villains
Sure it's not really accurate to the comics and this version of Green Arrow is way too similar to Batman but it was quality tv
also it's weird to recommend skipping to season 5 but that was also a really good season
season 4 was abysmal
Seasons 3 and 6 were ok
7 and 8, uhh also ok
i think they wrapped up his character fine enough
Yeah I've actually watched them
I think I stopped at season 4 actually
And yeah it was bad
that was just a really good version of deathstroke
imo
just really well written and i love the way he just puts oliver through the ringer
doesnt compare to Prometheus tho
that dude was on another level
if I could recommend just one more season of arrow for you to watch it would probably be season 5
prometheus must be experienced
Once again barely accurate to the comics but hes a really well written villain and clever too
I think I might be one of the few people that actually liked Damien Darhk but yeah everything else was just bleh
Neal McDonough just has so much charisma
Wait Prometheus was in Arrow?
Zamn I thought he was normally a Batman villain
They did a weird thing were they completely remixed that character
they gave him the name Adrian Chase which is the name of Vigilante in the comics
That's... super weird...
Also Skeet did you get the Fortnite/Marvel comic?
yeah its even more bizarre considering that they ALSO INCLUDED the character of Vigilante in that exact same season
his name was Vincent or something
Alright that's just downright stupid
it is but from a storytelling perspective season 5 is still really good
Good to know. I might revisit it
like ignoring the weird flipping around of comic names, Adrian Chase/Prometheus is one of the best villains i have seen in superhero tv
he might be up there with MCU Kingpin for me
While the Marvel Cinematic Universeโs multiverse is in full swing, another fan favorite multiversal hero is set to make his return. for some reason wandavision is still the longest one
Imma watch ep 2 tomorrow
The first one was good tho
I was slightly distracted while watching it, but I could still tell it was good shit.
i havent finished it
i watched the first 10 minutes

Cool!

@normal heron Bruno, have you ever seen a movie?
end of sentence
that just cracked me tf up
I laughed at that too
Pizza and ice cream lmfao
that guidance counselor is so weird
and awkward with his metaphors
Yeah
Also there is another grooming accusation against Ezra Miller ๐
This is a different 12 year old from the one before
@normal heron oh yeah btw i finished the episode
in spoiler tags, explain to me
who is this ||mysterious grandmother Kamala has that seemingly did something to make her family hate her? is she from the comics?||
||also why is the agent from NWH trying to capture her???||
||The crush situation was in the comics||
||But not the grandma||
||But she was an inhuman in the comics, in this show her powers are coming from a mystical bangle.
In the comics she also had the bangle btw, but it was mundane.||
||No idea. As far as I know she's not||
||Some think the DODC is trying to form a team but idk about that after this episode. They seem hostile.||
||Yeah i dont get their deal||
||Its nice they carried over the DODC agent from No way Home but man he's a dick||
||My immediate thought was that they had to be working for someone sinister||
||like maybe they aren't actually good guys||
||They're definitely not lmao||
There's gotta be a main villain right
True
||so far no one opposing her except for these lame fbi agents or whatever||
also remember at the end
||were those the mysterio robots from FFH???||
sure looked like it
Skeet I'm about to post a potential spoiler for something in the show that hasn't happened yet but I know it might happen because it happened in the comics
||howwwww tf did thwy get those ||
They may have been actually
they reallllly looked like it
||They're damage control maybe they just salvaged them||
True
Go ahead
i like using comics as a reference point
||Kamran is going to end up being a bad guy||
||You're supposed to. He comes off as a super likeable dude in the comics and it's revealed he's an Inhuman like Kamala. He was working for The Inventor the whole time and he is defeated when he punches with his thumb inside his fist ๐||
on that note id like to ask you a question
answer in spoiler tags of course
what aspects of this show are the most similar to the run of comics its based on?
so far
||Actually kind of how/when she gets her powers. Also Zoe's party. In the comics she sneaks out to Zoe's party and the orange juice/vodka line is repeated almost verbatim. In the show she sneaks out to Avengercon. After she sneaks out in the comics she gets exposed to Terrigen mist and saves Zoe from drowning. After she goes to Avengercon in the show she puts on the bangle and saves Zoe from a fall. So yeah, there are similarities there. In fact, when I was watching episode 2 with my family and that kid said "just orange juice" I said to my parents "and some vodka" and they were wondering how I just knew lol. Fun references.||
Sorry for late response I was watching Breaking Bad
I really hope ||the inventor shows up. Thatโd be great. ||
DUDE I WANT THIS SO BAD
This is all we have to go off of
As for|| kamran, I hope he turns out evil. Thatโd ad some noice spice to the plot. ||
||A nice twist it really would be||
I didnโt know if they were gonna do it in the show||, but it looks like Bruno is being forsaken again >~<||
||Which is good for adding drama, but it makes me sad lol. ||
||Dude I always felt so bad for Bruno. He's so nice and Kamala is all for Kamran and Red Dagger ๐ญ||
||Yo, I love red dagger. But come on, heโs right there. Heโs been putting up with your problems and sticking by your side for years. But she just turns a blind eye. ||
||This exactly dude. Maybe we'll get a writer who will kick off the Kamala + Bruno romance. Would honestly be great||
yeah at this point i'll just say it, they are fucking insane
Don't care about the movie anymore, just bring them down
there is SO MUCH

"They're an elevated being and they would be lucky to have someone like me to guide them"
What a fucking creep
How has this person NOT been fired
Like what the fuck WB DO SOMETHING
And they taunted the fucking police after they're trying to locate them dude
Just... oh my God
Yes Ezra. This is absolutely a hate crime
The way I look at it is
The film is finished
They might need to take some time to figure out what they want to do in this situation
Of course they can fire him but that's going to heavily impact how they can market this film
And they should fire him, i'm not denying that
Just the fact they have to let go of their Flash will heavily damage them
and that film was struggling for quite awhile behind the scenes
apparently went through multiple script rewrites and a bunch of other shit
this flash movie took so long to be made and now their lead actor speedruns getting cancelled
its an absolute tragedy
@normal heron
Whoops I saw this earlier but forgot to respond
Yeah WB is not in the best of situations
Really though if I'm them I scrap the movie
Under no circumstances would I let a movie starring Ezra Miller to hit the big screen
Not saying it's an easy decision but I think it's right
Recast Flash for future projects and don't release the movie
Those are my thoughts
At the same time though it ruins Michael Keaton's big return as Batman
Not really. He's in Batgirl
oh very intersting
I'm just really happy we're finally getting a movie based on someone from the bat family
that isnt batman obv lol
We still need a fucking Batman movie lmfao
they deserve solo films just as much as the dark knight himself imo
Tf
The Batman is not DCEU canon
Yeah it took me this whole time to figure that out too. It's so confusing with all these standalone things
ehh
it's OK I guess
We've still already had like 5 on screen versions of Batman
It doesn't really matter that much to me that they skipped a Batfleck movie
I just don't see how they can connect anything anymore
You're making half decent movies and that's great but they all set up something and just abandon it
I understand that but batgirl opens the door for night wing getting a solo movie which I think is cool
and other characters
they kind of butchered him in the titans HBO Max series
See what I mean
Like idk
They just have so much stuff happening
Like why is the CW still going
Their resources are spread so far out they can't give any one thing enough attention to make it good
And yes they did
I haven't seen it and I can agree
Titans butchers everything
I couldn't even watch the finale of s2 because I hated almost everything leading up to it of
Like how do you fuck up deathstroke so bad that it makes the Arrowverse version look like the best portrayal of the character
cause thats basically what happened
wasnt the other one an alternate reality
Unconfirmed
One scene and then they completely abandoned him
One scene in the extended cut
the vision sequence at the end looked like it might be set in the flashpoint timeline
Darkseid is like the big bad, and whatever the CGI mess is they fight is the bad guy of the movie
A henchman of darkseid
i watched the animated flashpoint movie and it reminded me of that
It's possibly going to end up that way in the DCEU, tho
That's the point
Zack Snyder set Darkseid up as the main villain for the DCEU and we're gonna have fucking Amanda Waller and her squad of D list villains turned heroes take him down apparently
Mfw Idris Elba takes out Darkseid with a tiny bullet because that's how it works
Snyder made a mess of it and he wasn't even allowed to try and rectify it lol
This thing lacks direction to the point where fans can't even speculate. We can just watch execs fuck around with a director's vision so much that the DCEU becomes even more of an incoherent clusterfuck of a universe with 0 direction, connections or substance.
At least it was a clear direction. I can give Snyder that.
Yea I'll grudgingly admit it was clear what the plan was
How it was going to unfold, I have no clue
The problem is DC has like 3 different distributors making content based on their characters
Main DCEU, HBO max series, and the fuckin CW
its not that bad with marvel
Like yeah we have some disconnected stuff here and there but the majority of modern Marvel content is MCU
Then you've got DC where I can count as many CW shows as there are DCEU films
And DCEU actors are doing end career speedrun any % or just leaving entirely
except maybe John Cena ig
Peacemaker was a legitimately good comeback for a really forgotten character
But Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck and (hopefully) Ezra Miller are all gone
I can't speak for it but I did enjoy him in TSS
Good movie and good show (presumably) but still no connection to a greater picture
Peacemaker has a really big connection to the Justice League towards the end
it is set in the DCEU
||Yeah and they're all silhouettes because they couldn't get any fucking actors to show up for it||
It looks goofy as hell
two of them did, ||Ezra and Jason Mamoa||
Oh yeah Ray Fischer is out definitely
After Joss Whedon harassed him during reshoots
||Damn they got 1/3 of the Justice League to show up that's actually a great turnout||
Yeah, had to make sure you knew the truth about that
They show Barry and Arthur's faces
๐
It seems to me like Henry Cavill just enjoys playing Geralt of Rivia more now
Which is fine
People move on
It's been 9 years since the first time he played that character and they've barely done much with him
||zod, way too much from the comics in BvS, black suit, the lois lane romance||
thats about it
Actually that does sound like a lot but they didn't do it well
I thought Man of Steel was one of the weaker movies in the DCEU
They did not do Superman justice
Admittedly he is very hard to write for. It can be very hard to make him grounded and relatable like Batman but it can be done and I think Man of Steel kind of failed at that
Yeah I prefer Superman being more light hearted and hopeful
The Christopher Nolan-esque dark and broody style didn't really work for him
I can tell that's probably one of the reasons why people say Superman and Lois was such a good show
It seems to embrace the more traditional optimistic and hopeful style of writing for superman
I heard that man of steel was apparently inspired by a run of Superman that was really dark and gritty
Tbh I don't really care if it was based on something specific it's still really not how I usually envision that character
That also might be one of the reasons why Batman Superman fell flat
Batman vs. Superman is not a super great movie by itself but in context of ZSJL I think it's great
Superman is usually portrayed as a hopeful and light hearted hero, standing for truth and justice
Batman is the dark one
so making both characters moody and grim is kinda boring
it clashes
wheres the differences between them if you don't seperate their tones
I think that was what made them fighting in the comics so interesting so taking that away you're just left with something a bit generic
This exactly
The Batman Hush and Dark Knight Returns Batman vs Superman fights are classic for that very reason
I think the only instance I can think of where a darker Superman fighting Batman was compelling is in the injustice video games
but like that was because superman just legit went evil
He ||fuckin murders Shazam in Injustice 1 for disagreeing with him||
||he murdered a fucking child, basically||
Never liked Superman
Thanks that was not the point of this conversation
I've always preferred Batman more but we were not talking about who we liked more
I was analyzing the portrayal of the character
Yeah, not trying to be an asshole or anything. But I can see how it came off that way.
i get it
Ok I would love to continue this convo but I'm super fucking tired. It's 1 AM and I need sleep so I'll see you all in the morning and hopefully we'll pick up where we left off
@coral salmon found this at my local library.
Way ahead of you
Dude I went looking for issues of this at a comic shop yesterday and they didn't have any :(
I'd like to own the whole set to fill my legacy run of West Coast Avengers
I've got the entire set from the 80s and 90s but I just need that volume
@blazing loom DC just pulled this variant cover from listings amid the ongoing Ezra Miller controversy. I can see why. (This is a comic book prelude to the Flash movie btw so that is literally Miller on the cover)
why tf he gotta be naked on the cover
tbh that makes it worse
so yeah i can see why they pulled it
I guess the artist thought it would just be a goofy Flash cover but the art has not aged well
It's rly good art tho
The way the suit is displayed is similar to the flash suit that comes out of the ring, which is a nice reference
Whatโs the controversy? Typical comic book cover. Itโs just a dude this time.
Ezra Miller has 2 accusations of grooming kids against them
It's a great cover. Just not what you want to release right now
and has just generally been acting insane
That too
this may be kinda random but
it sucks that Grant Gustin will now have to always be compared to that creep
Oh, thought the controversy was over the art lol.
no
its because the drawing kinda resembles Miller
who is literally wanted by police atm
Hmm
It is miller
It doesn't resemble him, it literally is him
Out of their hands what Ezra does sadly
Unfortunately
what i was trying to get at is i know its meant to look like him, but i dont think it looks exactly like him
Oh ok
Especially because the Batman in the background doesn't really look a lot like affleck batman
It kinda does but the colours are wrong
The ears, the six pack in the armour, they're accurate
This pisses me the fuck off
this goes beyond just fans being idiots. people are hypocrites sometimes
its just like with star wars
you're ok with seeing a bunch of diverse alien species but you draw the line at a person of color?
which is an idea we have in the mcu too lol
because Guardians
and just the overall cosmic side of the universe
like you're ok watching a sentient raccoon who can talk
and his best friend, a tree
but not-
you get my point
and plus the mcu and star wars are both frachises that already have plenty of diversity
so anyone doing this racist shit is just flatout stupid
Exactly dude
Marvel makes a show about a character and a family who isn't white and you all lose your shit
Why?
Why do you fucking care?
It's not "pushing an agenda" to make a TV show about a Pakistani person. In fact you're the people making it political by saying it's politics. It's just a TV show about a person who may not be exactly like you. And I bet you haven't even seen it anyways so FUCK YOU for review bombing it you cunt
i also dont get it when its based on something from the comics
Exactly
Nobody bitched about it until they made it a show
i'd understand a little backlash if they created some random new character instead of pulling from the many diverse options in the comics
but kamala has already proven to be a hit with readers
This is not true
People been bitching about miles, Kamala and every other non-white-appearing hero since the early 2000s
It's stupid as fuck
They claim it's all badly written which uh, no. A few are, most aren't, and the ones that are tend to be put into comics limbo anyways
Like the newest version of the New Warriors
That was piss poor lmfao
Haven't read it but yea
Just read that article
The thumbnail does the job
You've got green lantern, aqualad, a link lantern, vampire zuko and whoever the last one is
๐
The fuck is that green knockoff cyclops bullshit
Screentime
Miles has always been a well written character
No
Sorry, no
But he's been bitched about for being bad when he's been good
He's had some awful writing tho
This, for example, is awfully written miles
No it's not. It's a What If comic lol
It's still bad writing
Still not the worst I've ever seen
It's still better than Bendis Speech
This is Grant Morrison parodying Bendis Speech
OK you know I wasn't talking about alternate universe stuff
I was talking about miles as spider man
Kamala Khan has always had good writing ๐
I read a little bit of what I think was the original run of Miles Morales and it was really good
I need to read Ultimate Fallout
I wanted to give you this piece of fun Trivia
do you remember the scene in spider man homecoming where ned drops the completed lego death star and it shatters
That's incredibly reminiscent of the scene in the original miles Morales run where his best friend Genke destroys their lego battleship or something
In fact its weird, Ned himself in that film feels rather inspired by Genke actually
Ned is literally Peter's Ganke. He makes all this tech stuff for him and he has the same personality
Also I copped the first appearance of God Emperor Doom but one of the 1:25 variants. I feel like this book is undervalued by a lot.
that was one of the aspects of homecoming that I found a really unique and surprising
that they took so much inspiration from the ultimate comics
Not just that but that it took from ultimate comics that weren't even about Peter Parker
I was gonna say that Dr. Strange's incursion might connect the Ultimate Universe with the mainstream MCU but then I realized Miles is already confirmed in Peter's universe :(
yes because Aaron Davis
it's one of the many dangling threads from homecoming that have never been followed up on
I really wish they would because they got Donald Glover to play him
Yeah, and I know Donald Glover is a busy man but he can easily do like one more scene
if they needed him to
I don't think him being a busy actor excuses the fact that we haven't seen him in 5 years
Just prowler
The mcu doesn't need miles right now
I really don't think they do at all
Trust me I'm the biggest fan of Miles Morales but I just don't think it's the right time
Especially when we just got no way home and there's renewed interest in seeing future projects with Andrew and/or Tobey
Not yet
If/When Secret Wars happens though...
It's Miles time
@coral salmon @blazing loom
Lmfao we were just talking about this yesterday
oh shit why are those shoes near IDENTICAL to the ones he wears in Into the Spider-verse
The cover is so cool
The actual story tho
Blegh, blegh, blegh
"by Odin's fade" makes me wanna die
When I first saw it I kind of excused it because it was a What If story but I can definitely see what went wrong there
@blazing loom Lmao new Ezra Miller controversy
yeah ok
i mean at this point, we get it
they're horrible
no other thing i hear is going to change that
At this point I'm almost laughing at the fact that these reports don't seem to be stopping
there's already enough crappy stuff thats come out
we get the picture
DC needs to either completely reshoot or completely scrap the Flash movie at this point
I hope the police get ahold of them soon
at this point if it does come out it will be good publicity for Michael Keaton
and we can all just ignore the other guy
Also lets not forget
its not like the writers or the director are the ones fucking up their own life here
ezra is just an actor
Yeah I think reshoots are in order
Honestly writers don't get enough credit
Or completely scrap this current movie and start again with a new actor as Barry Allen
i just think this is completely unfair to the people who actually made this movie
the crew and creative team
I agree but I think it needs to be done
This movie cannot release with Ezra Miller as The Flash
I really wanted a Flash movie and this is unfair to the fans as well
We need some SERIOUS reshoots or a new movie with a new actor entirely
i mean
5 seasons of House of Cards are out with Kevin Spacey in the lead
and i think one of them came out after it became public knowledge that he was a pedophile
not justifying it just saying its been done before
Nope. House of Cards season 5 came out May 2017 while the allegations against Spacey came out late October of 2017. Baby Driver also came out in June of 2017 so to my knowledge nothing released after people found out he was a pedo
ok then i'll go with this example
it seems they aren't replacing amber heard in aquaman 2
It remains unclear
and based on this trial and her actions ahe appears to be a manipulator
Also there is an argument to be made that that trial isn't enough to remove her from that role. Not saying she shouldn't be replaced because I think she should but still
I mean Ezra Miller was grooming kids dude
And threatening parents with guns
They're literally on the run from the police and apparently housing children with guns and drugs
They also hold a major DCEU role while Amber Heard is Mera
true
Did Amber Heard lie? Yes. Should she probably be replaced? Yes. But I think right now, DC has a much much bigger problem in Ezra Miller. And frankly as long as they take care of that problem, I'm happy. At least Amber Heard isn't a complete menace to society and a danger to everyone in her area
that i can agree with
i'll at least be excited to finally see The Rock as a comic book character this year
Yeah. Black Adam looks good
do you think they were right to make an entire movie about that character?
rather than making him just the antagonist of shazam 2
Dude I have no idea honestly. It seems like an effective way to bring in the JSA though so count me in
Ok skeet I have to take a timed reading test as homework for my tutor now
So I will be back after about an hour
it has to be good if it took this long
im excited for Pierce Brosnan's role
he's one of my favorite bonds
im not but thats your opinion
The only reason people aren't burnt out with DC is because they haven't released anything
It'll happen to DC too
im not burnt out with star wars either
i hated the last jedi and rise of skywalker to an extent as well but i was already a fan before then and i stuck with it
Thank fuck they fixed A New Hope on the Disney 4K
Why the fuck is there pink sand
George please explain
Because he put it there
Nope. He edited the movie for home video and slapped this disgusting magenta tint over the whole movie
It's visible in EVERY SCENE and the 4K HDR transfer finally removed it
No movie should look like the top pictures do
@normal heron yo thats tight
But anyways I just wanna let you know I'm about to watch the new Ms Marvel
Yooo have fun
Is that the version that's on Disney plus? (bottom photo i mean)
@normal heron excellent episode
It's the 4K UHD transfer so I guess so?
I think my only issue is that ||I thought the plot line with the people trying to take her power moved a little too fast||
||like she gets one scene meeting them and then we find out that they want to use her for their own benefit||
||feels like maybe they cut a scene before that||
But yeah otherwise this is a really good episode and I just thoroughly enjoyed it
Yeah that's a bit of a pacing issue but I overall enjoyed the hell out of it
||are those characters from the comics?||
||the interdimensional people||
||ok so they didn't debut in ms marvel but do they appear in ms Marvel comics||
?
Yes
Well no
cool
Do they have a plot line with kamala
oh
interesting
||Well then is their story in the show at all similar to anything from miss Marvel Comics?||
Not that I can remember offhand really
oh, gotcha, thats ok
||i really liked how the episode went to such great lengths to explain where the bangle came from||
||a full on historical flashback at the beginning||
||And based on the ending of this episode it seems they're going to continue to give us more surprising revelations about her family||
Yeah I can't wait for the next episode
||Also I just want to say how amazing I thought the wedding scenes were||
||Were you smiling during all the dancing
because i sure was||
it was just such a joy
||I definitely was. Such a great and happy scene. Kinda what I needed right now||
||I'm glad they got to finish their dance number before the villains attacked||
lol
Yeah lol
||Speaking of stuff that makes us smile, Anything involving Kamala's dad|| lol
||I honestly was screaming at my TV today
in happiness
"THIS MAN IS A TREASURE"||
||PROTECT HIM||
||AT ALL COSTS||
||I think he might be my favorite father in the mcu||
There's a few other examples but he is top tier
||Honestly a lot of mcu dads are people who have done really bad things||
||I really hope he sticks around too||
||yeah, one thing I've found really refreshing about this series
her parents aren't dead
or presumably won't die||
||And it shows that they really love her and that they're great people||
||I love Kamala's parents sm||
||Yeah and I like that her mom is a bit flawed||
||It makes these characters feel very human||
||Just a bit. She still holds up very well||
||yeah I didn't mean flawed from a writing perspective I meant like as a person||
||it humanizes her alot||
Ah gotcha
||And yes I really like her mom too||
Same
Skeet broski honestly you gotta get in the comic book game
Shits fun as hell
||Like in the first episode you're really mad at her for being so overprotective of Kamala
But we're learning more about the kind of person she is and her values||
||and we're starting to appreciate her alot more||
@normal heron Also you should know I'll be able to watch these episodes on Wednesdays now
Kenobi ended yesterday
So now Ms Marvel is back to being my only weekly show rn
Ms. Marvel better than Kenobi ๐
They aren't comparable
I was just letting you know that time is over and I can finish the show quicker
And talk to you about it sooner
so thats cool
Yea I was just messin
gotcha ๐ซ
I'm really glad this show is going so well
Plus the culture that it's representing
They have something to be proud of
Absolutely
Perfect
@blazing loom New actress cast in Blade
Ms. Marvel is the best Marvel project of phase 4 and quite possibly the Marvel project with the most style out of anything they have ever released
I do not exaggerate when I say that
The shots are beautiful, CGI is great, you will love every character and it is a visually stunning movie packed full of bright colors and style
Yes it is
@blazing loom Vouch for me
@marble mason Don't trust user reviews. It's getting review bombed by racists
Yeah
Same goes for IMDB and to a much lesser extent Rotten Tomatoes
Nah it's getting review bombed there
I mean exactly what I said
It's getting review bombed
These dumbasses mostly
A lot of them try to just say "oh it's cringe" with no further explanation or "oh it's bad writing" (once again with no further explanation) to mask their racism
That has nothing to do with the actual substance of the show
That's what a review should be
looking at the show as a story
not saying simple minded shit like "fuck this woke crap"
I don't get why people are mad about shows making political statements or commentaries on society
Movies have been doing that for generations
Stan Lee chose to make his comics political
Captain America fought Nazis, and that was twenty years before Stan Lee made his first comic
12 Angry Men, Blazing Saddles and now movies like Get Out
Why are people so pissed now?
What changed?
X-Men is extremely political and that's one of the most popular comics ever
They find other similar viewpoints cos of the internet, then they feel empowered to whine more
Since the very first issue
Yep
Black panther, named after a political party
And so on, so forth; marvel comics are political more than not
I find it funny how these people view social commentary and see it no deeper than "Oh look mutants!"
It's so, so blatantly political
Magneto is Jewish, he survived the Holocaust and he's talking about superior races???? Come ON, how much more obvious can it be
I know right
These people view things so surface level and the moment they see a person of color they lose their shit
@coral salmon @normal heron I think Marvel should issue an official statement about toxic stuff like that
True but this is big boy mainstream Marvel studios
Kevin Feige is the Stan Lee of marvel studios
He's a busy man so I understand if he doesn't but my respect for him would go even higher than it already is if i saw him issue a statement regarding these racist fuckwads
Agreed
I don't know if you saw but when people were harassing and hating on Moses Ingram from Kenobi, Ewan Mcgregor himself posted a video condoning those toxic fans
IIRC i think even Lucasfilm themselves or higher ups at Star Wars said something about it
and btw this isn't about Star Wars I know you arent into the series
im just using a comparable example
The twitter account did
That's good
@coral salmon @normal heron Either of you guys around right now
Oh I just had a potential conversation topic
Oh
If you're not around to spend time on the conversation that's fine
Just figured I'd ask you guys first
What's the topic?
Last night I did my disney+ rewatch of multi verse of madness
had some new thoughts
||ok so about the illuminati part of the film||
Uh huh
||yeah, it was pretty jarring when they all died by wanda's violent magic
but tbh, im realizing there was a point to all their deaths
the fact they all die shows how truly arrogant they were
Raimi showed me that through the vast multiverse, there are good and bad, smart and dumb, versions of all these characters
Even Xavier comes off as a bit hypocritical and arrogant||
They're all extremely arrogant, such is the point
It's uh, incredibly dumb they all died though
||and he's often portrayed as the smartest character in marvel||
||I'm just saying i don't think i completely caught onto that in my initial theater viewing||
||imma be honest, i kinda like how surprising it is||
It makes narrative sense
||i knew it was coming and it gave me anxiety
it was impactful||
It indicates Wanda is far stronger than you could ever predict
It's also incredibly anticlimacticn
yeah
So much hype and for like, ten minutes of screen time
||Captain Carter's death hit me the hardest||
This is a conversation on twitter I had ab it earlier this week
Explains my irritation with it more
None of them upset me tbh
i just honestly like it in some ways
||like how its a neat way to play with the concept of the multiverse||
Oh it's a fantastic way to show how batshit the multiverse is
It also is anticlimactic that in a movie called "multiverse of madness" our only meaningful interaction with any other universe lasts for twenty odd minutes
||like, we will most likely see those same characters again
just these versions were the egotistical and hypocritical variants||
that i honestly do agree with
Every version of them is egotistical
||yeah but reed can be a very good level headed character, right?||
I loved the other two members, I think they were great additions and they're likeable, but reed is an asshat
like in the comics
Reed is often just an ass
oh
I don't read a lot of f4, mostly because I dislike reed
i speculate the main 616 version will be a more morally superior version
when the f4 film comes around
I don't know if he will
I'd assume he'd be like iron man, where he's just charismatic but evidently still a knob
yeah but if they go that angle they also have to do something fresh
Wdym
they cant make him tony stark
like hes just tony stark again
nah man
tony stark is a good template for the cocky type, but they have to do something more with it too
yknow, add something fresh
That's not what I'm saying
What I'm saying is he'll be likeable but also very clearly not a nice person
I'm not saying he has to be cocky or confident or act like Tony
thats still a Tony archetype
yeah perhaps
Also an archetype of a lot of the MCU
but he still needs to be smarter than that reed, otherwise i don't think i'd be able to believe he could last longer than the 838 Reed lasted against scarlet witch
which was like 5 seconds
I'd not say smarter, I'd just say less egotistical
But then, that's a defining part of reed
yeah, at least a little less
clearly the ego still needs to be a part of MCU reed but balance it out a bit more with his intelligence
Maybe now that Wanda has not got ||the darkhold|| it would be believable for 838 reed to go against her without a plan
Mm yea
Maybe
We'll have to see how it pans out
oh yeah true
honestly the darkhold is basically just a video game cheat code for her in this movie
take that away and it makes the illuminati battle actually fair
Strange calls her a really powerful being in the film
not taking into account the darkhold
So it might not make it fair, but it definitely makes it fairer
It's like if everyone had a pistol and she had two pistols and an AR and then one was taken away
yeah that
||she definitely stopped rubble from crushing her||
Where she teleports
in that moment
In a flash of red energy
ya just dont see it
Well we don't see kingpins body
So he feasibly ain't dead
You don't see the body, then they ain't dead. First rule of TV lol
but thats just a comparable example, back to mom
MoM
i really enjoyed the portrayal of what's essesntially wanda's villain arc from the comics
expecially how Olson played it
She was magnetic to watch tbh
i think they may expand on that
she does find a way to make her children real in the comics, iirc
I do not recall
like i was just really looking forward to Strange and Wanda finally interacting in a film, and this movie did ALOT more with that than i expected
Yea it was a rly good dynamic
yeah honestly
a tad weird that vision's only referenced a couple times in the film but tbh the weight of his absence is still felt throughout the film
besides white vision is still a thing
its white vision lol
My bad
like from the comics
Anyways
He had the memories of hex vision
We don't know exactly what those memories were
Like, Wanda may not have given him certain memories, like of his death
had to be most memories from vision's mcu joourney im assuming?
oh yeah, good point
because she essentially brainwashed everyone there
