Yessss you'll have to let me know what you think! It's definitely got a lot of vague comments about his history in the earlier episodes, and...I kinda feel like there's a lot that's not exactly explicitly said straight, but it's kinda talked about and mentioned enough to get the point across. Or maybe it is said explicitly, but it's not like some big revelatory moment, but it's just slipped seamlessly into the dialogue? idk. Like, I never remember being confused and I'm not sure if it's because I was looking up lore online or if it's because the show did a really good job explaining without slapping you over the head with the info (although there is a LOT from the manga that gets omitted). There is a flashback episode that explains most of the questions that you'll probably end up having if you hadn't pieced certain things together by that point, and while that episode is a lot more straightforward about things, it doesn't connect all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Sorry I know this is all really vague and doesn't mean anything since you haven't watched it yet but I also don't want to spoil anything.

The manga basically starts with episode 5 but (a couple of the episodes prior are in the manga, just later) and I actually prefer how they did it in the show. Seeing him be kind of a bumbling idiot for a few episodes really kind of sets your expectations, then episode 5 you see his true colors and his pain for the first time and it hits that much harder, and makes him seem so much more badass. In the manga, that's how you're introduced to him, so it's just kinda...whatever.

||Well he is brooding and mysterious, purposefully not allowing himself to get particularly close to anyone, and honestly for very good reason, which will be uncovered with time. He covers up his pain with humor and the wacky persona. Wolfwood calls him out on it right after meeting him, saying he smiles and seems so friendly but it's empty and he's filled with pain, so he's happy to see a real smile after he shares the food with the little girls. 🥺||

Trigun feels very suited for west audiences, it feels like it did well in NA

The movie is okay. I think it was generally well received and it's nice to have more content, but to me it felt almost like a fanfic? Like, it didn't quite capture the essence of what I enjoyed so much about the original. Still fun, still glad it exists. But it's just not the same.

I think even the creator says it should be watched in English as canonically that's the language they're speaking

I am...cautiously optimistic for Trigun Stampede. I know everyone is bitching about the redesign and I mostly don't care about that (although the coat and his arm gun are...not ideal IMO). But last I heard, they hadn't asked Johnny Yong Bosch to reprise his role which is criminal. I cannot imagine anyone else voicing him. Johnny is willing. He is perfect for the role. It won't be Vash without him.

Some of the other characters it's not as big of a deal, but will still be jarring. Meryl, Milly, and Wolfwood had new voices in Badlands Rumble and...I got used to it, although Milly in particular made me sad.

But the two roles especially that I can't deal with a recast is Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash and Richard Cansino as Legato

I think like 70% of why Legato is one of my favorite characters is because of his voice

||The name of the show is quite literal. 😂 Dude's got 3 guns. His main Colt, his prosthetic arm gun which is kind of his "oh shit" backup, and the one he never ever wants to use and is the reason he doesn't get close to anyone and is largely the reason for his bounty.||

Honestly the main reason I don't care for the new arm design in Trigun Stampede is that it's pretty subtle and comes as a bit of a surprise reveal nearly halfway through the original show. The fact that he's got a ||prosthetic arm|| isn't obvious at first glance. ||Like yeah, it looks different than his other arm, but maybe his coat ripped and that was his solution for another sleeve. Maybe it's armor. You don't know.||

Sorry, I guess this whole topic is a bit of a minor spoiler since it's not really revealed for a few more episodes, assuming you haven't watched more yet. Just hinted at with the moment you mentioned, which is kinda intended to be left as a mystery until later on.

It's so badass though! ||It does get an upgrade near the end of the series, hence why it looks different in the first picture||

||Honestly I think I like the original design better, with his arm being the gun and his hand is more of the attachment, coming down to use the gun handle. I just realized with the upgraded version the gun goes up instead of his hand going down.||

OH, and I was gonna say, with the Trigun Stampede design, I guess it still looks like it could be armor. But it's just so much more obvious. It still looks cool, just in different, much more flashy way. And Vash, while over the top in many ways, isn't exactly flashy or the type to draw attention to himself. You could argue the red coat is flashy, but he wears red for sentimental reasons. Same with the spiky hair. Which is another thing people are bitching about with the redesign.

Yeah I generally like the aesthetics of the redesign. It just kinda feels like it was made by someone who doesn't exactly...get the character? Idk. I know people were complaining about the large glasses but I like them.

And I like his new hair, too, but I get why people don't. The spiky hair is iconic and part of his thing. Maybe it's dated but that's okay and (actual spoiler) ||it kinda should be because the person that gave him that hairstyle died 200ish years ago, and style evolves||...granted fashion is likely not a priority on Gunsmoke. Their main priorities are survival/understanding lost technology to keep the plants running. ||/ alive||.

||I enjoy the contrast between them because it shows they're both very flawed. Vash is overly idealistic to a fault. He's unrealistic trying to save everyone all the time, but goddamn if he doesn't pull it off 99% of the time. The fact that he tries despite logic shows he's a good person and it's very admirable. Knives, on the other hand, took the logical conclusion to its nihilistic and narcissistic extreme. What makes him a great villain is that he's not wrong. If you save both the butterfly and the spider, the spider is just gonna starve to death. On a long enough timeline, it's just not possible to make everyone happy. And yeah, humans can be awful. Really awful. But that doesn't give him the right to decide who lives and who dies, nor give him the right to be just as awful (arguably more awful). The manga does provide a lot more context that makes his view more understandable, which is one thing I REALLY wish they'd been able to put into the show.||

||Legato on the other hand is just psychotic and unhinged, especially with the absolute lack of backstory in the show but he pulls it off so well that I can't help but love him as a villain as well||

Plus I just love his character design

it has lots of potential but recently the handling of the franchise has been odd
